Built for smooth, saturated colour
The heart of this RGB LED strip light is the Epistar 5050 RGB SMD chip: each chip holds a red, a green and a blue emitter, so colour mixing happens right at the source instead of across separate diodes. With 60 LEDs per meter over the 5 meter roll and a 120° lighting angle, the output is broad and even — ideal when the strip is tucked into a cove or a channel and you want a wash of colour rather than visible hot spots. The flexible circuit board is 10mm wide and just 2mm high, thin enough to disappear inside a shelf reveal, and the 3M self-adhesive backing holds it in place on clean, dry surfaces.
Electrical and installation details
This is a 12V DC strip consuming 14.4W/m, with a recommended power supply of 18W/m so the driver isn't running at its limit. The full 5 meters therefore needs a low voltage supply sized accordingly — always calculate from the length you actually install. It ships with a 4 pin male connector (17cm) on one end and a 4 pin female connector (17cm) on the other, which makes wiring to a controller straightforward. You can cut the strip every 3 LEDs (50mm) at the marked cut points, and dimming is available when you pair it with a low voltage controller/remote combo. Heat dissipation is not necessary, but installing the tape on a heat dissipating surface or inside an appropriate aluminum channel is recommended for longer, cleaner performance.

Where it earns its keep
Homeowners use this colour changing LED tape under kitchen cabinets and islands, behind floating vanity mirrors, along basement stair stringers and inside built-in bookcases. Contractors run it in ceiling coves and drop-ceiling perimeters where a single accent line can change the whole feel of a room at the flick of a remote. Small businesses put it behind bar bottle displays, inside retail showcases, around reception desks and along salon mirrors to shift the colour scheme with the season or the event. It's also a well-loved upgrade for boat cabins and RV interiors — just remember the iP20 rating means it stays on the inside, never on an exterior surface exposed to rain or spray.
Planning your run and documentation
Measure first, then decide where the cuts land: because the strip divides every 3 LEDs (50mm), you can tailor each section to a cabinet or shelf without waste. For runs around corners, cut and rejoin with 4 pin connectors rather than bending the board sharply. Because the certification is cULus for Canada and the USA (E498952), the strip suits both residential and commercial projects across the country. The technical PDF for this product is available in the Documentation tab with the complete data — voltage, consumption, dimensions, cut points and environment — so you and your electrician can size the low voltage supply and controller with confidence before a single strip is stuck down.
