LED linear fixtures put long, even light exactly where you work, park, store or sell. This category gathers LED strip fixtures and light bars, architectural linear lights, wraparounds, vapour tight fixtures and linear high bays, plus the brackets, connectors and kits to surface mount, suspend, recess or link them. Lengths range from 2 ft to 8 ft, and these fixtures replace fluorescent tube fixtures without flicker or slow starts.
Homeowners use them in garages, workshops, basements and laundry rooms. Electricians, contractors and property managers specify them for warehouses, offices, schools, stores and parking areas, where 120-347 V input, 0-10 V dimming, motion sensors and cUL, CSA or DLC listings matter. Pick the type of fixture first, then compare the specs that fit your project.
Linear fixtures share a long, narrow shape, but each family answers a different need.
LED strip fixtures are the workhorses of the category: a slim body that screws to a ceiling, a joist or the underside of a shelf. Light Efficient Design offers 3 ft and 4 ft light bars with an internal driver, and a 4 ft linkable fixture with a microwave motion sensor, selectable in wattage and colour. Nexleds makes slim 4 ft and 8 ft strips, one of them with a sensor.
When the fixture stays in sight, in an office, a showroom or a kitchen, an architectural model gives a cleaner line. Ortech's 4 ft architectural linear strip light selects 30, 40 or 50 W and 3000, 4000 or 5000 K; its 8 ft version offers 60, 80 or 100 W. The CSC LED AL series comes in 20 W and 40 W, in white or black, with recessed, mud-in, suspension, T-bar and wall kits. Canolight's LL1 series adds up and down light, 0-10 V dimming and 130 lm/W.
A wraparound has a curved lens that also covers the sides, so light reaches the walls as well as the floor. It is the classic choice for basements, laundry rooms, stairwells and corridors. The Turolight 4 ft LED wraparound runs at 40 W with four colour settings, Ortech's 4 ft model selects 30, 40 or 50 W, and CSC LED's WR2 offers 20, 28 or 35 W.
A vapour tight fixture is sealed against water, dust and humidity. Choose one for an unheated garage, a car wash, a cold room, a barn or any damp or wet location. Ortech's vapour tight LED luminaire selects 30, 40 or 50 W, produces 130 lm/W, is dimmable and is rated IP65 for outdoor use. CSC LED's VT range climbs from 15 W to 150 W, all DLC Premium.
Many strip and architectural fixtures can hang from the ceiling with a suspension kit, such as CSC LED's kit with canopy bracket for the AL series or Light Efficient Design's single kit for 2 ft and 4 ft fixtures. For a true pendant over a desk or a counter, see the LED linear pendants; for a line of light flush with the ceiling, see linear recessed fixtures. Under a high ceiling, a linear high bay such as Ortech's 4 ft model, selectable 200, 225 or 250 W at 135 lm/W, replaces fluorescent or HID fixtures.

Wattage tells you how much power a fixture draws; lumens tell you how much light it gives. Turolight's DL-EC2 shows the trade-off: 3900 lm at 30 W, 3250 lm at 25 W and 2340 lm at 18 W. Selectable wattage lets one model suit a small storage room or a bright workshop. To aim for the right level, see how many lumens per room.
4000 K and 5000 K are the most common settings in this category: neutral to cool white for garages, workshops and warehouses. 3000 K and 3500 K warm up offices, stores and finished basements. Many fixtures include a 3CCT or 5CCT switch to choose the colour on site, and a CRI of 80 or more suits general lighting.
Residential models run on 120 V. Commercial fixtures accept 120-277 V or 120-347 V, and 347 V is common in Canadian commercial and industrial buildings. Most dimmable commercial models use 0-10 V, which needs a compatible dimmer and low-voltage control wiring. Motion sensors, built in or plug-in like Canolight's microwave and infrared sensor for the LL1, switch lights off in empty aisles.
IP20 fixtures are meant for dry indoor spaces, while IP65 and IP66 fixtures resist water jets and dust. A damp or wet location listing tells you where a fixture may go. In Canada, look for cUL or CSA certification; a DLC or DLC Premium listing marks a high-efficiency commercial product.
Start with the space: a dry garage or basement takes a strip fixture or a wraparound, a car wash or cold room calls for a vapour tight, and a finished office or store looks better with an architectural or suspended model. Then pick the length: 4 ft is the usual replacement for fluorescent tubes, 8 ft covers long aisles with fewer connections, and 2 ft or 3 ft fits closets, shelves and work benches.
Plan the mounting next. The linear accessories include suspension kits and safety wire, T-bar and recessed kits, surface mount magnets and a 45-degree bracket for cove lighting or displays. For continuous rows, choose a linkable series: CSC LED and Canolight make L, T, cross and 120-degree connectors. Run rows parallel to the work surface or the aisles, evenly spaced, and see the garage and workshop LED lighting guide for placement tips.
At home, linear fixtures light the places where you need to see clearly: a garage, a workshop, an unfinished basement, a laundry room or a closet. A 4000 K or 5000 K strip fixture over a work bench makes small parts easier to see, while a 3000 K wraparound feels softer in a finished basement. See LED garage lighting for more room ideas.
In commercial buildings, linear fixtures line warehouse aisles, light offices and classrooms, follow store shelving and stand up to parking garages with vapour tight housings. 0-10 V dimming and motion sensors cut consumption in rooms that often sit empty. Linear LED lighting uses long, narrow fixtures that produce a continuous line of light rather than a single point. Strip fixtures, wraparounds, vapour tights, linear pendants and linear high bays all belong to this family, and they replace fluorescent tube fixtures.
A vapour tight fixture has a sealed housing and lens that keep out water, dust and humidity. It suits car washes, cold rooms, barns, unheated garages and other damp or wet locations. Check the IP rating, such as IP65.
A strip fixture is compact and aims most of its light down, which is ideal over benches and shelving. A wraparound's curved lens also lights the walls and softens glare, which suits basements, laundry rooms and corridors.
Yes, when the series is linkable. Light Efficient Design, Nexleds, CSC LED and Canolight offer linkable models with connectors for straight runs, corners and branches. Check the maximum run length on the product page.
Many are. Commercial models mostly use 0-10 V, such as the Canolight LL1 and the Turolight ZNTH60, while a few residential models accept TRIAC or ELV dimmers. Always pair the fixture with a compatible dimmer.
It depends on the circuit. Homes use 120 V, while many commercial and industrial buildings in Canada use 277 V or 347 V. Fixtures rated 120-347 V accept either supply, which simplifies mixed projects.
