A complete kit, not just a roll of tape
Plenty of people buy an RGB LED strip only to discover they still need a driver, a controller and a receiver. This LED Montreal kit skips all of that. You get 5 m of high output RGB 5050 strip with 30 LEDs per metre, a cULus Listed 12V 3A 36W Class 2 plug-in power supply and a 24-key infrared remote with its controller. The strip itself is the top-of-the-line RGB 150 LED strip from CDNLUX, and the model code for this kit is MTL-FP10AGHDJ-30ARGB. Everything is sized to work together, which is exactly why it's such an easy first project for a homeowner and such a quick install for a contractor.
Light quality and colour control
The 5050 RGB SMD chip is the workhorse of colour-changing lighting: each chip packs red, green and blue emitters side by side, and mixing them gives you 16 individual solid colours from the remote. The 120-degree lighting angle spreads the output wide, so when you tuck the strip into a cove, a toe-kick or a channel you get a smooth wash rather than visible dots. Beyond solid colours, the remote drives 5 light patterns — static, flash, strobe, fade-change and RGB smooth-change — each with 16 speed settings, plus straight dimming when you just want one colour turned down low. The infrared remote has a range of about 10 m, so it works comfortably across a living room or behind a bar.

Installation and electrical notes
Installation is about as friendly as LED strip lighting gets. Plan your run, cut the strip only on the marked cut points — every 3 LEDs, or 10 cm — and keep the total length within the 5 m the included power supply is sized for. Clean the mounting surface first so the adhesive backing grips properly; on rough drywall, raw wood or painted trim, a small aluminum channel or mounting clip gives a much more permanent hold and a cleaner finished edge. Respect polarity when connecting to the controller, keep the receiver in line of sight of the remote, and give the 12V DC power supply a spot with some air around it. This iP65+ version is the one to choose where splashes or humidity are a factor.
Where it works and what's in the Documentation tab
Residential projects love this kit: under-cabinet kitchen accents, a basement home theatre, a games room, stair coves, closet shelving, a headboard glow or a display case. On the commercial side it handles storefront windows, restaurant and bar fronts, salon and reception counters, retail shelving and trade show booths, where being able to change the colour for a season or an event is a real advantage. Since heat dissipation isn't necessary unless it's used in a commercial environment, plan on an aluminum profile for long-running installs in a business.
