Construction and flexibility
This is a flexible ribbon built for real-world installs: 10mm wide, only 4.25mm high, and supplied on a 5 meter reel. The low profile lets it disappear inside a cove, behind a valance, under an upper cabinet or along an aluminum channel, while the 3M self-adhesive backing sticks straight to clean, dry, smooth surfaces. Cut marks appear every 3 LEDs (100mm), so you can size a run to a shelf, a stair tread or a countertop without waste. The IP65+ coating protects the circuit and the chips against dust and splashes, which is why it is rated for dry and humid environments, indoor and protected outdoor use, in an operating range of 40C to -10C.
Light quality and colour mixing
Each Epistar 5050 RGB SMD chip contains a red, a green and a blue emitter. Driving them at different levels is what creates the colour mixing effect, and the number of shades you can reach depends entirely on the RGB controller you pair it with. Density is 30 LEDs per meter in a high-output format, and the 120° beam angle spreads light wide and evenly so you get a smooth wash on a wall or ceiling rather than harsh dots. One important note for planning: an RGB chip does not produce a true white, so if a room also needs clean task or ambient white light, run a separate white LED tape light alongside it.

Electrical, installation and compatibility
The strip runs on 12V DC, so it needs a low-voltage power supply — size it using the recommended 9W/m figure and the total length you actually install, not the full reel if you cut it down. Between the driver and the tape you place an RGB controller, usually with a remote, which also handles dimming and colour changes; the strip is dimmable only through that low-voltage controller/remote combo, not with a standard wall dimmer. Connections are already made easy: a 4-pin male connector (17cm) sits on one end and a 4-pin female connector (17cm) on the other, so extending or chaining sections stays clean. Wipe the surface before sticking, avoid tight bends over the chips, and keep the roll unrolled while powered to prevent heat build-up. Sold as strip only, so choose your driver, controller and any aluminum profile separately.
Where it works and documentation
Homeowners use this RGB LED strip for kitchen under-cabinet glow, bedroom headboards, basement ceiling coves, home theatre risers and staircase accents; contractors and small businesses put it behind reception desks, along bar fronts, in retail display cases, in gyms and in restaurant ceilings where a colour change sets the mood for an event. Boat and RV interiors are a favourite too, though it should not be installed on the exterior of a boat or vehicle. With cULus certification for Canada and the USA and a 50,000+ hour rated life, it suits both residential renovations and commercial fit-outs. The full technical PDF for this strip is available in the Documentation tab of this page — download it before you order your power supply so your wattage calculation is right the first time.
