Built for serious low-voltage work
The 12DIMP200 is a Class 1 LED driver designed by Smarts Electronics for LED MONTREAL, and it plays in a different league than the small plug-in adapters people use for accent lighting. Its job is to take line voltage and turn it into stable, regulated 12V DC power for a professional installation, while keeping the output split across two independent channels. The unit ships with its own junction box, so wiring, splices and load distribution stay contained in one enclosed, serviceable point instead of being scattered behind a ceiling or inside a cabinet.

Dimming and electrical behaviour
Because the dimming happens on the 120V AC side, you control the whole system with a wall dimmer rather than adding low-voltage controls downstream. That keeps the user experience simple: one familiar dimmer on the wall, smooth light level changes for the loads connected to the two 12V DC outputs. Each output is capped at 8.33A (100W), so plan your load per channel rather than lumping everything onto one side; balancing the two outputs is the cleanest way to use the full 200W capacity. Always verify the total connected wattage of your fixtures before energizing, and leave headroom for a stable, long-lasting system.
Compatibility and the Class 1 rule
This is the part that matters most. A Class 1 transformer is not to be used with low-voltage LED strips. Powerful drivers of this class are reserved for professional LED applications involving load division through recognized fuses, plus inspection and recertification of the installation by an accredited body (UL, Intertek, QPS or similar) — a step an electrician cannot sign off on alone. If your project is a LED strip installation, you need a Class 2 power supply limited to 96W at 24V or 60W at 12V; that combination meets certification standards and the electrical code without requiring an inspection, and using an oversized transformer voids the protection you are counting on.
Applications and documentation
Think engineered residential and commercial projects: a large custom home with a centralized 12V lighting room, a retail or hospitality fit-out where several low-voltage circuits are fed from one mechanical closet, or a commissioned installation where a certifying body signs off on the finished work. In Canadian conditions, mounting the driver and its junction box indoors, in a dry, ventilated and accessible location, makes future service far easier for whoever comes next. The full technical PDF for the 12V Universal Dimmable LED Driver 200W (2X100W) is available in the Documentation tab — download it and hand it to your electrician and your inspector before the first conduit is pulled.
