Built to stay outside
The Principal Sloan series is designed around one idea: a 24V LED driver that survives rain, snow, dust and humidity without being hidden in an enclosure. A robust sealed cover, potted electronics and waterproof cables and connections earn the IP68 rating, while integrated mounting brackets on each side let you screw the unit directly to a wall, post, joist or the inside of a cabinet. The slim profile — just under an inch tall — is the real trick: it tucks into soffits, deck framing, sign boxes, under counters and behind cove mouldings where a standard LED power supply simply would not fit.
Electrical and wiring details
The driver accepts a universal 100-277VAC 50~60Hz input, which means the same model works on a residential 120V circuit or a 277V commercial lighting circuit. Output is a constant 24Vdc at 4.0A, for 96W maximum. Two distinct ports keep input and output clearly separated: the AC side carries three 30 cm leads (live, neutral and ground) and the DC side carries two 30 cm leads (positive and negative). The Class 2 output limits the low-voltage side to a safer power level, which simplifies the low-voltage runs to your fixtures. As with any hard-wired driver, the line side must be connected by a qualified electrician and in accordance with local Canadian electrical code.

Compatibility and sizing
Use this driver with any 24V DC LED strip, LED tape kit, low-voltage linear fixture, sign module or puck light that calls for a constant-voltage 24V supply — never with 12V products, and never with constant-current fixtures. To size it, multiply the strip's watts per metre by your total length, then leave headroom: staying around 80% of the 96W maximum keeps the driver cool and extends its service life. Longer runs are best split into several shorter feeds, or shared between two drivers, to avoid voltage drop and colour shift at the far end of the tape. Keep the DC leads as short as practical and use an appropriate gauge for the distance between the driver and the first section of strip.
Where it earns its keep, and documentation
Typical jobs include gazebo and pergola lighting, deck and stair lighting, garden and landscape accents, illuminated storefront and channel-letter signage, garage and workshop task lighting, cottage and boathouse installs, RV, trailer and food-truck conversions, and cove or under-cabinet lighting inside the home. Because it handles both indoor and outdoor duty, one model can cover an entire property and keep your spare-parts list short.
