What this end cap isThis is a single
finishing end cap, #84 standard style, supplied without a cable hole, in a black finish. It is a profile accessory, not a light source: its job is to terminate an
aluminum LED profile cleanly at the end of a run. On a cut extrusion you are left with a bare aluminum edge, an open cavity and a diffuser that can creep out of its groove over time. The cap solves all three at once — it closes the opening, locks the lens in place and gives the end of the channel the same finished look as a factory-made linear fixture.

Fit and compatibilityEnd caps are
profile-specific. The #84 shape must match the #84 channel series — always compare the cap outline to your extrusion cross-section before ordering, especially if you are mixing surface-mount, recessed and corner profiles in the same project. A typical run uses two caps: this closed version at the dead end, and a drilled version at the supply side so the low-voltage feed wire can pass through without pinching. Buying by the unit makes that easy, and it also means you can keep
spare end caps on hand for the day a fixture is shortened on site or a cap disappears during demolition. Caps are offered in several finishes and styles across the profile range, so you can keep one consistent look from the kitchen to the hallway.
InstallationCut the extrusion square — a mitre saw with a fine-tooth blade or a hacksaw and mitre box both work — then deburr the edge with a file so the cap seats flush. Seat the
LED strip and snap in the diffuser first, then press the cap firmly into place so nothing binds. In high-traffic areas such as stair rails, counters or shop displays, a small dab of adhesive or the supplied fastener keeps the cap from working loose. For ceiling coves and long continuous lines, dry-fit the whole run before fixing the channel to the surface: adjusting a joint or a cap position is far easier before the screws go in. Wipe the inside of the diffuser before final assembly, since fingerprints and sawdust are hard to reach afterwards.
Where it gets usedUnder-cabinet and toe-kick lighting in kitchens, backlit bathroom mirrors, closet and pantry shelving, stair and hallway accent lines, cove ceilings in living rooms and basements, retail shelving and display cases, reception desks, restaurant bars and workshop benches — anywhere a
channel and diffuser is cut to length. Renovators appreciate that a black cap reads as a deliberate detail against dark trim rather than an afterthought. If your project uses flexible neon instead of rigid channel, the matching accessories are the
Flex neon endcap 3x6 (without hole), the
Flex neon endcap 6x6 (without hole) and the side-view version, the
Flex neon endcap – side view (without hole). For another standard extrusion series, see the
Finishing end cap #11 (with hole). No spec sheet or IES file is published for this accessory; select it by matching the profile shape.
