What it is and what it doesAn endcap is the small closure that finishes the exposed end of an aluminum
LED channel. This
#85 standard finishing endcap is the closed style: there is no opening for wiring, so it is used at the terminating end of a run, or wherever the power feed enters elsewhere in the profile. The result is a clean, seamless edge instead of a visible cut extrusion with the LED tape showing through. It ships as a single unit (1X), which means you buy exactly the quantity your drawing calls for rather than a fixed kit — one cap for a closed end, two when both ends of the channel are finished, and spares for site changes.
Fit and compatibilityEndcaps are profile-specific. This one belongs to the standard
#85 profile family and follows the outline of that extrusion and its diffuser, so always match the cap to the exact channel and lens shape you are using before you order. Several channel families exist in the standard range, each with its own dedicated caps and lenses, which is why the number on the cap matters as much as the style. If your project also uses
#11 profiles, the matching caps are the
Finishing end cap #11 no hole and the
Finishing end cap #11 with hole. For flexible neon runs, the equivalent closures are the
Flex neon endcap 3x6 without hole and the

Protection, alignment and light qualityBeyond looks, the cap gives the strip inside real dust and debris protection, which counts in kitchens, workshops, garages and retail fixtures where the channel is open to the room. It also helps keep the
diffuser seated and aligned so the lens does not creep out of the extrusion over time with thermal cycling. Just as important, it prevents
end glare — that bright hot spot you see straight into when a run terminates at eye level or below, in toe-kicks, shelving and cove details. Capping both ends is what makes a strip installation read as a continuous line of light instead of a piece of tape in a groove.
Installation tipsDry-fit the cap before final mounting. Slide the diffuser slightly back, seat the endcap on the extrusion, then push the lens home so the joint closes tight — that sequence gives the flush result you are after. If your channel is
surface-mounted, install the cap before fastening the last mounting clip, so the profile end stays square and flush against the wall or millwork. Make sure your cut on the aluminum is square to begin with; a filed, deburred end lets the cap sit fully home. On a feed end, plan which side the wire exits before you cap, since this closed model has no hole for the lead.
Where it gets usedUnder-cabinet and toe-kick lighting, cove and crown mouldings, closet and pantry shelving, stair nosings and handrails, display cases and shelf edges in retail, reception desks, bar fronts, restaurant banquettes and office millwork — anywhere a
linear LED run stops and the end would otherwise be visible. SKU
