A compact, hardwired workhorse
This hardwired LED driver packs its output into a housing designed to be concealed: inside a cabinet, behind a valance, in a millwork base or along a cove. The two molded mounting brackets built into the body let you screw it securely to wood or another solid backing so it stays put for the life of the installation. Its two distinct screw-in ports, one for the incoming AC supply and one for the outgoing DC output, keep the wiring logical and make troubleshooting easy if the layout ever changes.
Sizing the load and installing safely
The output delivers 12V DC, rated at 60W (5A). To plan your circuit, add the wattage of every LED strip segment connected to the output and keep the total well below the 60W rating: that margin is the recommended practice for optimal performance and a driver that runs cooler. Since this 12V hardwired power supply connects directly to line voltage instead of plugging into a power receptacle, installation should be made by a qualified professional in accordance with your local building code. It is intended for indoor use only and should be installed in a dry location.
Strip compatibility and dimming
This LED strip driver powers single-colour 12V strips and RGB LED strips. For colour-changing tape, an RGB controller installed between the driver and the strip manages colours and effects. The driver is not compatible with AC dimmers, so it must never sit behind a conventional wall dimmer. For adjustable brightness on a single-colour strip, install a low-voltage DC dimmer on the output, between the driver and the LEDs. Every strip and accessory connected to the output should be rated for 12V DC.
Projects that call for it
Outline an entire living room ceiling with cove lighting, light both the upper and lower cabinets of a large kitchen and pantry, or illuminate a long wall of retail shelving from one central location. Restaurants backlight bars and bottle displays, offices light reception desks and feature walls, and designers use it for custom millwork where the driver must stay invisible. Fewer drivers means fewer connections to make and a cleaner installation.
