Built for short LED strip runs
Not every job needs a big metal driver bolted to a ceiling. When you're powering a single accent run — a metre behind a headboard, a shelf in a retail display, a strip under a floating vanity — a compact plug-in supply is the smarter, faster answer. The 12V 1A (12W) power supply from LED MONTREAL is a sealed transformer box with a cord that goes straight into a wall receptacle, then feeds low-voltage DC to your LED strip lights. No electrician call-out, no ceiling access, no rough-in. You simply connect the output to the strip's input end and you're lit.

Sizing it right — the one calculation to do
This is the step people skip, so let's be clear. Every LED strip lists how many amps (or watts) it consumes per metre. Multiply that figure by the length you plan to run, and the total must stay below the 1A / 12W this supply can deliver. Leaving a little headroom is always wise. If your total goes over, don't force it: an overloaded power supply will overheat and fail, and it can take your strip with it. In that case, move up to a higher-amperage unit or split your project into two separate feeds. Also confirm your strip and controller are rated for 12V DC — matching the voltage of the supply to the voltage of the strip is non-negotiable.
Dimming and colour control
The supply itself is not dimmable and must never be connected to a wall-mounted AC dimmer — that's the fastest way to destroy a transformer. Dimming and colour changing happen downstream: install a low-voltage controller between the power supply and the strip. With a single-colour strip, an inline dimmer controller lets you set the mood; with an RGB LED strip, an RGB controller gives you colour changes, scenes and fades. This power supply is compatible with both the Single Colour and RGB 12V strips in our catalogue.
Where it earns its keep and what's documented
Homeowners use it for under-cabinet kitchen lighting, cove lighting in a basement ceiling, closet and pantry strips, bar tops, staircases and behind-the-TV backlighting. Contractors keep a few in the van for finishing touches and small punch-list additions. Retailers and restaurants light shelving, display cases, reception counters and menu boards without calling in a rough-in crew — helpful in older Canadian buildings where fishing new wire is a headache.
