Built for short runs and clean corners
Most colour-changing tape is sold in long reels, and that's great until your project is a series of short segments. The RGB301M is a 1-metre RGB LED strip designed exactly for that reality: cabinet sections, individual shelves, display niches, sign boxes, toe-kicks and cove details that turn corners. It's a flexible circuit board on a self-adhesive 3M backing, so it conforms to slight curves and sticks to clean, dry, smooth surfaces without brackets or clips. Because it's sold as a strip only, you keep full control over which accessories you add, and you can buy exactly the length you need instead of cutting up an expensive long roll.
Light quality and colour mixing
The light comes from 5050 SMD diodes, the format that packs red, green and blue emitters into a single chip so colours blend smoothly along the run instead of showing separate dots of colour. Rated brightness is 650 mcd for red, 1000 mcd for green and 400 mcd for blue, a balance that produces rich saturated tones as well as convincing blends when you mix channels. With 30 LEDs per metre, you get well-spaced points of light that suit accent and ambiance work — cove lighting, shelf edges, under-cabinet washes and decorative reveals — where you want colour and glow rather than task-level output. Mounting the strip inside an aluminum channel with a frosted lens is a great trick to blend the individual diodes into one continuous line of colour.

Electrical and installation notes
This strip runs on 12V DC low voltage, so it never connects directly to a wall outlet — it needs a low-voltage power supply and an RGB controller sized for your installation. Use the recommended wattage figure of 9W per metre, rather than the 7.2W per metre draw, when you calculate the capacity of your power source; that headroom keeps the supply cool and extends its service life. Add up the total metres in your run, multiply by 9W, and choose a supply with capacity to spare. Plan your controller placement and cable route before you peel the adhesive, wipe the mounting surface with alcohol so the 3M backing grabs properly, and observe polarity when you join sections. Each end of the strip has a male connector that can be removed to convert it into a female connector, which makes it easy to chain sections or mate with the connectors you already have on hand.
Applications and documentation
In a home, think under upper kitchen cabinets, above a bathroom vanity mirror, behind a headboard, under floating shelves, along a basement bar or inside a media unit — anywhere a single metre of colour transforms a flat surface. On the commercial side, the format is ideal for retail display cases, restaurant counters, reception desks, conference room coves and window signage, where several short runs beat one continuous reel. The IP65+ splash-proof coating adds peace of mind in kitchens and near sinks.
