What this lens is and what it doesThe 8' Black Coffee Lens #84 #85 #86 #88 is a replacement or first-fit
diffuser for LED aluminum extrusions, specifically the #84, #85, #86 and #88 profiles. A lens is the visible face of any linear LED system: it protects the tape from dust and accidental contact, softens the light and, above all, decides what the fixture looks like. This one is tinted a deep coffee black, which is why designers reach for it when the channel itself is dark or when the ceiling detail should disappear during the day. Off, it looks like a solid dark reveal. On, the strip reads as a subdued, low-glare line instead of a bright white bar.
Light quality and finishBecause it is a tinted
LED strip cover, this lens absorbs more light than a frosted or opal diffuser. That is exactly the point in accent and mood applications — cove ceilings, bars, home theatres, display niches — where a full-brightness line would be distracting. To get the most out of it, use a higher-output tape than you would behind a clear or frosted lens, keep the strip centred in the channel, and avoid very low-density tape, since a tinted face does less to blend individual diodes. For task areas such as under-cabinet kitchen lighting or a workshop bench, a lighter diffuser is usually the smarter choice.

Installation and compatibilityInstallation is mechanical and tool-free in most cases: slide the lens in from one end of the channel, or snap it in along the run, once the LED tape is mounted and the wiring is dressed. Cut it on site with a fine-tooth blade for shorter sections, deburr the edge, and finish the run with the matching end caps and mounting clips for the profile you are using. Since this lens is dedicated to the #84, #85, #86 and #88 extrusions, confirm your channel number before ordering — profile families are not interchangeable, and a lens that is a millimetre off will not hold. For repairs, note the profile number stamped or printed on the existing channel, or measure the opening, and order the matching length.
Applications, related products and documentationTypical jobs include cove and tray ceilings in a living room, a dark linear line above a kitchen island, stair and handrail lighting, retail shelving, bar and restaurant millwork, hotel corridors and office reception walls — projects where the fixture is part of the architecture, not an afterthought. Within the same accessory family you will also find the
8' frosted lens #84 #85 #86 #88 and its alternate version, the
8' frosted lens (#84 #85 #86 #88), both for these same profiles, plus lenses for other channels such as the
8' opaque lens #49 and the
8 ft opal diffuser lens for LED profile #44. No spec sheet or IES file is published for this accessory; any document added later will appear in the Documentation tab of this page.
