What exactly you are gettingThis listing is for one 8-foot
opaque lens designed for LED aluminum profile #49 — the diffuser alone, not the channel, not the tape light, not the driver. Think of it as the face of the fixture: the extrusion holds and cools the strip, the lens is what your eye actually sees. Because it is an extruded part, the cross-section is shaped to lock into the retaining grooves of the #49 channel, so it holds without glue, clips or tape, and it can be popped back out later if you ever need to service or replace the LED strip underneath.
Why opaque beats clearA clear cover protects the strip but leaves every diode visible as a bright dot. An
opaque diffuser scatters that light so the run reads as a single continuous band, which is the difference between a professional-looking installation and an obvious strip of tape light. It also hides the copper pads, solder joints and cut marks of the strip, a detail that matters enormously in millwork, display cases and anything at eye level. Diffusion always trades a little output for a lot of visual comfort — if your run is behind a cove or a valance where nobody sees the source, that trade is invisible; if it is under a cabinet or over a counter, it is what makes the light livable.

Installation and handlingWork on a flat surface and support the full 8-foot length when you carry it — long extruded lenses flex easily and can kink if they are dragged over an edge. To cut to size, mark your length, use a fine-tooth blade in a mitre box or score-and-snap with a sharp knife against a straight edge, then dress the cut lightly so it slides cleanly into the channel. Slide the lens in from one end rather than forcing it in flat, and leave the protective film on until the end of the job so drywall dust and fingerprints stay off the visible face. Clean with a soft damp cloth only — no solvents, no abrasive pads. For long runs, butt two 8-foot sections together inside a continuous channel and keep the seam away from sightlines, or hide it at a corner or a cabinet break.
Where it gets used, and what goes with itIn homes across Canada these covers show up in under-cabinet kitchen lighting, toe-kick and island details, bathroom vanity coves, basement ceiling recesses, stair and handrail lighting and closet systems. On the commercial side: retail shelving and display cases, bar fronts, reception desks, salon mirrors, office cove details and signage. Because it is profile-specific, the golden rule is to match the number on your extrusion before ordering — a #49 lens fits a #49 channel and nothing else.
