Built for profiles #84, #85, #86 and #88This lens is an 8-foot extruded cover designed to seat in the lens channel of
aluminum LED extrusions #84, #85, #86 and #88. It slides in from the end or snaps in along the length, depending on how the profile is mounted, and holds itself in place without adhesive. Because the cross-section is matched to those four profiles, you get an even seat along the whole run — no wavy edges, no lens popping out halfway down a cabinet. Order it by the SKU LCLENS-OPAQ85-8FT-BK so you receive the black version rather than the frosted one.
Light quality and the black lookThe black "coffee" tint is what sets this lens apart from a standard white diffuser. Off, the channel reads as a dark, quiet line that disappears into black ceilings, dark cabinetry, charcoal millwork and matte-black track systems. On, the tint veils the individual diodes of the
LED strip so you see a glow instead of a row of hot spots. As with any tinted or smoked lens, expect a softer, more contained output than a clear cover — that is precisely the point when the goal is mood, accent and architectural detail rather than raw task light.
Cutting, handling and installation tipsWork on a flat surface and cut with a fine-tooth blade or a miter saw with a plastic-rated blade; go slow so the edge stays clean and chip-free. Deburr the cut with a light pass of fine sandpaper, then dry-fit before committing. Install the
LED tape and wiring in the extrusion first, test the circuit, and only then close the run with the lens — it saves you from pulling everything apart to chase a loose solder joint. Leave a small expansion gap at each end of a long run, and let end caps hold the lens ends tidy. Keep the protective film on until the channel is mounted so the face stays free of fingerprints and jobsite dust.
Where it earns its keepUnder kitchen uppers and in toe-kicks, along floating shelves, in bulkheads and coves, on stair stringers, behind reception desks, in retail display cases, in gym and studio ceilings, in home theatres and basement bars — anywhere a white stripe would break up a dark surface. Commercial crews also use black lenses to keep long corridor runs visually calm during the day. Because it comes in 8-foot lengths, it is easy to plan continuous runs and simply butt sections end to end.
Companion products and documentationIf part of the same project needs a brighter, more diffuse look, pair this with the
8' frosted lens #84 #85 #86 #88, which fits the same extrusion family. Jobs running several profile types can add the
8' opaque lens #545 or the
16ft opal diffuser lens for LED profile #80 for the matching channels. No spec sheet or IES file is published for this accessory; if you are unsure which lens matches the extrusion already on site, compare the profile number stamped on your channel or the lens you are replacing before ordering.
