A recessed profile that hides the light source
The #86 is a recessed LED profile: set into a groove, it keeps the LED strip inside the surface instead of on it, so the eye sees light rather than hardware. That is exactly what it was designed for, making the light source invisible, while its compact form factor allows a wide range of uses. In black, it melts into dark cabinetry, black ceilings and modern millwork, and it draws a crisp graphic line wherever you want contrast. This version, LCPROF-86-8FT-BK-LENS-OPAQ, pairs the profile with an opaque lens for a soft, even glow.
Solid aluminum, white or colour light
Made of 6063-T5 aluminum, this extruded aluminum channel holds the LED strip straight and protects it over the whole run. It accommodates a wide variety of white and colour RGB and RGBW LED strips, so the same profile works for a warm white accent in a kitchen or a colour-changing line behind a bar. It can be installed indoors or outdoors, and it can be painted if black is not the shade your project calls for.
Planning the installation
Plan the groove from the technical drawing on the spec sheet, which gives each dimension of the section in millimetres and inches. Decide in advance where the wires will exit and where the power supply of the LED strip will go, ideally in an accessible spot. For an outdoor project, choose an LED strip rated for the location. The 8 ft length suits most cabinets and walls; for longer lines, the series offers 16 ft lengths and custom fabrication up to 192 inches. Have any line-voltage connection made by a licensed electrician.
