What this connector actually doesA track system is only as good as its power entry point, and the
live end connector is exactly that. Installed at the open extremity of the first track section, it carries the branch circuit conductors from the ceiling or wall outlet box into the copper conductors of the rail. From there, the current travels the whole length of the run and every lampholder you clip in — anywhere along the track — is powered. Because it sits at the end rather than in the middle, it keeps the feed discreet and lets you run the track straight along a wall, a soffit or a kitchen island without a visible junction in the middle of the line.

Wiring and installationStart by shutting off power at the main panel before installing the track or any accessory. Position the track over the outlet box, mark the mounting holes on the ceiling or wall, then fix the rail: on drywall or plaster, drill 5/8" holes and use the toggle bolts supplied; on wood surfaces, use standard #10 wood screws (not supplied), with the flat underside of the track facing the ceiling or wall. Cut and strip the box wires to
3/8" and secure them to the screw terminals in the connector — there is no need to wrap the conductor around the screw. Loosen the set screws on the connector before sliding it into the open end of the track, then tighten them. To maintain circuit polarity, the ground tabs of the connector must be prepared before sliding it over the non-ground conductor side of the track section you are joining; if the wrong tab has been removed, do not use the connector, because grounding will not be maintained. Once all the track and connectors are properly installed, make sure dead-end caps are slid into ALL remaining open ends and the set screws are tight before turning the power back on. Local installation requirements must be respected.
Compatibility and lampholdersThis live end feed is part of the
AST-TRK H-type single-circuit family and belongs on a TUROLIGHT track run. To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock, use only fixture assemblies marked for use with TUROLIGHT track. Mounting heads is simple: align the polarity lines of the track with those of the lampholder, push the top of the mounting adapter (with the contact tabs) into the track slot and turn 90°; if the adapter does not turn easily, do not force it — turn the other way. To remove a head, press the release lever with your index finger and turn 90°. The white connector pairs with the white rails such as the
AST Track 4 ft H type and the
AST Track 8 ft H type, while black runs built with the
AST Track 6 ft H type black are available in the same family.
Applications and documentationRetail is the classic use — a clothing boutique lighting merchandise walls, a jewellery counter, a gallery aiming heads at artwork — but this
track lighting system is just as at home over a kitchen island, in a hallway, a home office, a basement stairwell, a hair salon, a café or a small showroom, anywhere you want to re-aim light without re-wiring. Because it is IP20 and Class I, keep it to dry, grounded indoor locations. The installation instructions and the spec sheet for AST-TRK-H-LEC-WH are available in the Documentation tab of this page: download them before you start, share them with your electrician, and plan how many rails, feeds and dead ends your layout needs.
