What this end cap actually doesAn aluminum LED profile leaves two open ends once it is cut to length, and those openings are where a good installation starts to look unfinished: exposed strip, visible solder points, dust and a loose power lead. This
finishing end cap with hole closes one of those ends and gives the supply wire a clean, dedicated exit. The other end gets the solid cap, with no hole, so nothing is left open. The result is a complete linear fixture built from parts — the same look you get from a sealed factory-made fixture, but with the freedom to cut your
LED channel to whatever length the cabinet, cove or shelf demands.
Fit and compatibilityThis is the
#91 standard profile cap, and end caps are profile-specific: every extrusion shape has its own matching cap. Before you order, hold the cap profile against the end of your channel and confirm the shape and dimensions line up for a snug, gap-free fit. Surface mount, recessed, corner and suspended extrusions all use different cap shapes, so the safest habit is to match the cap to the channel model you are buying, not to a similar-looking one you already have in the shop. Each cap is sold individually, which lets you order exactly what a run needs: one with a hole at the feed end, one without a hole at the far end, and a couple of spares for the job box.
Installation tips that save a callbackFeed the low-voltage wire through the hole before pressing the cap into place, and leave a little slack inside the channel so the solder joint or connector is never under tension — tension at the strip's pad is one of the most common causes of a dead section months later. If the channel has been cut on site, file or deburr the aluminum edge so the cap seats flush and square; a burr is usually why a cap sits proud or pops off. The cap normally friction-fits, but for overhead cove work, garage ceilings or anywhere people brush past the fixture, a small dab of adhesive keeps it in place permanently. Do a quick power-up test before you close everything in.
Where it shinesThink under-cabinet and over-cabinet kitchen lighting, bathroom vanity strips, cove and ceiling perimeter details, staircase and hallway accents, closet and pantry shelving, retail display cases, bar and restaurant millwork, backlit signage, and workshop or garage task lighting. Contractors appreciate that a finished channel with proper caps looks deliberate and holds up to cleaning, while homeowners simply notice that the light looks built-in. In Canadian renovations where millwork runs are rarely a standard length, the cut-to-fit channel plus matching caps combination is the practical way to get a custom look.
