Built for signs, not for guessworkThe RGBMODH modules are made through an
injection moulding process, which is what gives each module its sealed, solid feel and its
IP67 protection class. Inside each 70 x 16 x 8.1 mm housing sit 3 SMD5050 diodes, the workhorse chip of RGB signage. The modules arrive pre-wired in a chain of 20 pcs per series with a module centre-to-centre distance of 175 mm, so you simply lay the string into the cavity and the spacing takes care of itself. The back is self-adhesive, and a mounting ring is included if you prefer to screw each module down — a number 4 screw is the preferred size for that ring, and it is the safer choice inside a sign that will live through summer heat and winter cold.
Colour, spread and even lightEach module produces 6600 mcd with a
160° beam angle. That very wide spread is the key spec for backlighting: it lets light overlap between modules so the sign face reads as one smooth glow instead of a row of bright dots. Colour temperature is
RGB — red, green and blue mixed by a controller — which means an almost unlimited number of colours, static scenes or dynamic fades. Keep in mind these modules do not produce white light, so if a project needs crisp white letters plus colour, plan a separate white source. Recommended cavity depth is 10-15 cm; shallower boxes will show hot spots, deeper ones dilute the punch.

Wiring and installationPower must be
DC 12 V constant voltage — nothing else. Chain length depends on how you feed it: a maximum of 20 modules in one chain when power is supplied from a single end, and a maximum of 40 modules when power is supplied from both ends. Splitting the feed is the trick for long channel letters and wide light boxes, and it keeps brightness consistent from the first module to the last. Always unplug the power supply before connecting LED wires, and double-check polarity and the RGB conductors: an incorrect connection can cause a short circuit and product failure. The strings can be cut to fit various project sizes, so odd letter shapes and small cavities are no problem. Even with the IP67 rating, these modules are meant to sit sheltered inside a light box or channel letter — not exposed directly to rain, snow or sun.
Compatibility, uses and documentationRGB modules cannot change colour on their own; they need a controller between the 12 V supply and the chain. The
E3-RF 3-in-1 RF LED controller is the recommended match, with RGB mode and 1 to 8 zones for shops that want each sign or section on its own colour. Typical jobs: a restaurant's backlit logo that turns team colours on game night, a barbershop's channel letters, a car dealership's illuminated panel, a hotel reception sign, a games room feature wall or a backlit bar front in a basement renovation. Because the modules are rated from -20 to 45 °C, they suit unheated back-of-house spaces and sheltered exterior signage across Canada.
