Solid extruded aluminum construction
The LUX710 is an extruded aluminum channel with a simple, honest job: hold your LED strip straight, protect it, and cool it. Aluminum is one of the best low-cost heat conductors available, and in a tape light installation the enemy is always heat build-up behind the circuit board. Sticking a strip directly onto wood, melamine or drywall traps that heat; laying it inside an aluminum profile for LED strip pulls it away and spreads it over the full 8-foot body. The result is more stable light output over time and a strip that actually reaches the lifespan it was designed for. The U shape also protects the strip from dust, fingers and the occasional bump — a real advantage under cabinets, on shelving edges and in workshops.

A low-profile design that keeps your light
At only 6 mm high, this is one of the most discreet channels you can specify. Taller channels cast their own shadow lines and clip the edges of the beam; here the short side walls stay out of the way, so the strip delivers its full spread. The 18.7 mm width gives you a comfortable seat for most standard tape light widths, IP20 bare strips as well as IP65 silicone-coated strips for kitchens, bathroom vanities and other spots where splashes and humidity are a factor. Because it is a surface-mount U profile, no routing or drywall cutting is required — it simply sits on the surface, which makes it the easiest option for retrofits and rental-friendly upgrades.
Installation and accessories
Mounting is straightforward: fix the channel with the optional aluminum clips (clip the profile in, and it can be removed later without damage) or bond it directly with heavy-duty double-sided tape for cabinets, shelving and smooth painted surfaces. Peel the adhesive backing of your led strip lighting and press it into the base of the channel, keeping the solder pads and connectors accessible at the feed end. Run your low-voltage wiring back to the driver before closing the run, and add matching end caps so the cut ends look finished. If your layout needs less than 8 feet, the aluminum can be cut to length with a mitre saw and a fine-tooth blade — always cut between strip cut-points so the LED segments stay intact.
Where it works and documentation
Typical projects include under-cabinet kitchen lighting, pantry and closet shelving, cove and tray ceilings, staircase stringers, headboards, basement bars, garage workbenches, retail shelving and display cases, restaurant millwork, reception desks and office aluminum extrusion ceiling lines. In Canadian homes, an 8-foot section lines up neatly with standard cabinet banks and framing, so you cut fewer joints and get longer uninterrupted lines of light.
