Built from real extruded aluminum
The LUX747 is extruded from ALCOA 6063-T5 aluminum alloy, the same family of alloy used for architectural extrusions, chosen here for its rigidity and its ability to move heat. An LED tape glued directly to drywall or wood traps its own heat; mounted inside an aluminum channel, that heat spreads along the length of the extrusion instead of sitting under the diodes. The result is a steadier output and a longer service life for your LED strip. The U-shaped body is designed to be recessed into drywall, and its aluminum fins act as a flange that overlaps the cut edge, hiding the small imperfections that always show up around a hand-cut opening.

Strip compatibility — check your tape width
The channel accepts any LED strip up to 14 mm wide. That covers standard indoor IP20 tapes, silicone-coated IP65 tapes, and certain IP67 tapes built on 3528 LEDs. It does not accept strips wider than 14 mm, which includes some heavily encapsulated IP67 products — measure the tape, not the reel label, before you commit. Peel-and-stick tapes adhere directly to the flat inner base of the U; for a stronger bond on longer runs, clean the aluminum with isopropyl alcohol first and press the full length down firmly. Keep your power feed and any connector at one end of the run so the wiring stays hidden inside the ceiling or wall cavity.
Installation and cutting
Aluminum cuts cleanly with a mitre saw and a fine-tooth blade, or with a hacksaw and a file to deburr the ends — handy when a wall or ceiling run doesn't land on an even 8 feet. Sections butt end to end for continuous lines of light, so plan your joints where they'll be least visible and keep the strip's own cut marks aligned with the joints. The optional spring clips make the recessed installation quick: position the clips in the drywall opening, then push the profile into place for a secure, tool-free hold. Do your rough opening and wiring before taping and mudding, and let the drywall finisher work right up to the fins for that seamless, plaster-in look.
Where it works and what's included in the documentation
This recessed aluminum LED channel suits residential and commercial projects alike: kitchen and living room ceiling coves, hallways, staircases, basements, home theatres, bathroom and vanity details, plus retail displays, restaurant ceilings, hotel corridors, offices and showrooms. In Canadian renovations it's a favourite for hiding the light source in bulkheads built around ductwork, and for drawing long architectural lines in new drywall ceilings. The technical PDF (8 FEET INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ALUMINUM U SHAPE PROFILE FOR LED STRIP) is available in the Documentation tab with the profile's dimensions — worth printing before you frame your opening.
