What this lens actually doesAn LED strip on its own is a line of bright points. Put a diffuser over it and those points blend together. That is the whole purpose of this
opal diffuser lens: it is the light-transmitting cover that closes off the top of
LED profile #81 and spreads the output evenly along the run. The opal (also written opaque) version is the heavier-diffusion choice compared to a clear cover — you trade a small amount of raw output for a finished look with no visible dots, which is almost always the right call when the channel is installed at eye level, under a cabinet, along a stair or anywhere someone can look straight into it.

Installation and cuttingWork in the logical order: mount the
aluminum extrusion, run and connect the strip inside, test it, then fit the lens and finish with end caps. The cover engages along the channel's full length, so slide it in from one end rather than forcing it in the middle — that is how lenses get stress marks. For shorter sections, measure the extrusion first and cut the lens to match with a fine-tooth blade, a mitre saw or a sharp utility knife scored and snapped; deburr the edge lightly so it seats flush. Leave the protective film on until the run is mounted and cleaned up, and keep hands off the underside — fingerprints show once the strip is lit. If a cover ever gets scratched or discoloured, you simply pull it out and drop in a new 8 ft length instead of rebuilding the whole run.
Where it earns its keepThink kitchen under-cabinet and toe-kick lighting, bathroom mirror surrounds, cove and tray ceilings in living rooms, closet shelving, basement stairs and bar tops at home. On the commercial side: retail shelf and display case lighting, reception counters, restaurant banquettes and bar fronts, office linear ceiling details, showroom millwork and signage boxes. In renovation work across Canada it is also a repair part — lenses take the abuse during drywall, paint and cabinet installation, and a fresh 8 ft cover brings a tired run back to looking new.
Matching the rest of your channel orderLenses are profile-specific, so always match the number on the extrusion. If your job mixes several channel styles, the family includes covers for other profiles: the
8FT opal diffuser lens – LED profile #44 and its
16FT version for long uninterrupted runs, the
8' opaque lens #545, and the
8' frosted lens #84 #85 #86 #88 when the profile calls for a frosted cover. No spec sheet or IES file is published for this accessory; if you are unsure which lens your channel takes, check the profile number stamped on your extrusion or on its original packaging before ordering.
