Built around a regressed gimbalThe heart of this fixture is its aiming ring. The LED is mounted on a gimbal that pivots inside the 4-inch aperture, so a single ceiling layout can serve as general lighting in one room and as accent lighting in the next. Because the light source is
regressed — set back from the ceiling plane — the bright emitting surface stays out of your normal line of sight. That's what gives a ceiling that calm, high-end look instead of a row of glaring dots, and it's why designers keep specifying regressed
gimbal recessed lighting for open-concept homes, condos and commercial fit-ups where people are constantly looking up.
Light quality you can measureLiteline's spectrum test report for this model is worth reading before you choose anything else. Colour rendering comes in at Ra = 92.8 with an average R value of 90.9, and individual values such as R9 = 55.97, R13 = 94.20 and R14 = 99.57 — the kind of numbers that mean reds, skin tones and greenery hold their character. The TM-30 results (Rf = 92, Rg = 98) confirm both fidelity and saturation are in good shape. Measured chromaticity lands at x = 0.4623, y = 0.4132 for a CCT of 2687K against the ANSI 2700K target, with a tolerance of 1.8 SDCM — in plain language, consistent colour from one fixture to the next down a long hallway. Peak wavelength is 623.0 nm with a FWHM of 139.6 nm, and the spectrum is balanced at R = 26.6%, G = 70.9%, B = 2.5%.

Dimming and installation notesThe DTW in the model code stands for
dim-to-warm: as you lower the dimmer, the light shifts toward a warmer, candle-like tone instead of staying flat. Pair it with a compatible dimmer and give yourself a bright, accurate 899.4 lm for cooking, reading or working, then bring the room down to a warm evening setting with the same fixture. For installation, plan your aiming before you close the ceiling: measure where the artwork, the island or the feature wall will sit, space the fixtures so the tilted beams land where you want them, and keep the gimbals consistent so the ceiling reads as a designed grid. In a retrofit, verify your ceiling depth and joist locations, and remember that a tilted fixture wants a bit of room to swing inside the housing.
Where it works and what's availableThis is a strong choice for kitchens, living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, basements and bathrooms, and just as at home in restaurants, hotel lobbies, boutiques, salons, clinics and small offices where warm, flattering light sells the room. black and
brushed nickel versions, plus the
Luna 4" OnCloud RGBTW when you want colour-changing zones. The technical PDF (RA4-12RG-DTW90WH Spec Sheet) is available in the Documentation tab — download it for the full photometric and spectrum test data before you finalize your layout.
