Built around a regressed gimbalThe defining feature of the RA4-12RG-90BK is right there in the name:
regressed gimbal. The LED module sits back inside the housing rather than flush with the ceiling plane, and the whole head is mounted on a gimbal so it can be aimed after installation. Two things follow from that. First, glare control — with the source recessed, you see the illuminated surface rather than a bright dot in your peripheral vision, which matters enormously in low ceilings, bedrooms and hallways where people look up. Second, flexibility — a fixed
LED downlight commits you to one beam direction forever, while an aimable head lets you re-point the light when furniture moves, a gallery wall goes up or a kitchen island shifts during a renovation.
Light quality and colour fidelitySpectrum testing on this LUNA model reported Ra = 92.8 with an average R value of 90.9, R9 = 55.97 and TM-30 metrics of Rf = 92 and Rg = 98. In plain language: reds hold up, woods look warm rather than muddy, and painted finishes read the way they did on the sample card. The measured chromaticity landed at 2687K against the ANSI 2700K target with a Duv of 0.0008 and a colour consistency of 1.8 SDCM — tight binning that keeps a ceiling full of
4 inch pot lights looking like one coherent installation. Measured output on the tested sample was 899.4 lm at 100.17 lm/W, a level of efficiency that lets a warm, high-CRI
recessed LED fixture do the work of far thirstier halogen trims while drawing a fraction of the energy.

Installation and aimingPlan your layout before you cut: in living spaces, a row of
round LED recessed lights kept off the wall and spaced evenly along the room reads far cleaner than lights centred over furniture. Because the head is adjustable, straight-down placement is not your only option — tip the gimbal toward a bookcase, a fireplace surround or a feature wall and the same fixture becomes an accent light. For wiring, follow the manufacturer's instructions and your local electrical code; in Québec and across Canada, permanent recessed work in finished ceilings is a job for a licensed electrician, and insulated or vapour-barrier ceilings must be detailed according to the rules that apply to your assembly. Keep the trim aperture free of insulation contact where the instructions require it.
Where it works and what pairs with itCondo and basement renovations, bedrooms, corridors, home offices, boutiques, cafés, waiting rooms and small commercial suites all benefit from a compact, aimable, warm-white downlight. The black aperture is a favourite for dark accent ceilings, home theatres and modern kitchens where a white trim would stand out too much. Within the same LUNA family you can mix finishes and functions: the
white regressed gimbal version, the
brushed nickel regressed gimbal version, the standard
4" Luna round gimbal fixture in black, or the colour-changing
Luna 4" OnCloud RGBTW in black for rooms where you want scenes and colour. The technical PDF for this SKU is in the Documentation tab — grab it for your submittal package or your electrician.
