That construction is what earns the unit its IP 65 rating and its UL-924 listing for Wet Location, meaning it is meant to face rain, spray, wash-down and condensation rather than just a dry corridor. The stated operating temperature range is -20˚C ~ +40˚C, which covers an unheated warehouse in January and a sun-baked loading dock in July. Light output and the two heads
Illumination comes from super bright SMD LED at 6500K, a cool, high-contrast white that makes the green Running Man pictogram legible down a long aisle and puts clean light on stair treads and thresholds. The two lamp heads are rated 1.5W x 2 for a 4.5W total fixture draw, and they are adjustable, so you can aim one down the path of egress and the other at the door hardware, or spread them to cover a wider landing. Because it is LED rather than incandescent, the draw stays tiny and the heat stays low, which also means the battery runs the heads far longer than an old sealed-beam emergency unit would.

Input is 120/347VAC, a dual rating that saves you sourcing a separate model or a step-down transformer when the building is fed at 347V — a very common situation in Canadian commercial and institutional construction. Self-powered operation comes from a Ni-Cd battery backup good for 2 hours of illumination after a power failure, and the unit is remote capable. A test switch and charge indicator light are built in, so the building superintendent can run the required functional test from the floor and confirm the battery is charging at a glance, without opening the housing.
