Multi-location control, without new wiringTraditional three-way switching depends on a traveller conductor running from one box to the other. In a finished home or an occupied commercial space, adding that wire means opening walls, drilling studs, patching and painting — often more work than the lighting upgrade itself. This
wireless 3-way switch takes a different route: it works together with a compatible smart lighting system, and the devices talk to each other over a wireless link. One point carries the lighting load, the other acts as the companion, and both control the same fixtures. That is why it is such a favourite on retrofits, condo renos, basement conversions and heritage properties where cutting into plaster is simply not on the table.
Familiar feel, tidy finishThe
paddle-style switch was chosen on purpose. Smart lighting only works if everyone in the building can actually use it, so a guest, a tenant, an employee or a grandparent can walk up and press the paddle without an app, an account or a tutorial. The unit is offered in several finishes so a multi-gang wall stays visually consistent, and compatible wall plates give the installation the flush, finished look you want on a feature wall or a main entry. On the app side, the same load can be run from the wall, from a phone, on a schedule, or through compatible voice assistants — and timed events and scenes let lights come on before you get home and shut off automatically at night, which trims the waste you get from switches that only get flipped when someone remembers.

Installation and planningPlan the layout before anything comes out of the box: decide which location carries the lighting load and which one acts as the companion, then confirm the gang box has the depth and the space you need alongside neighbouring devices. All wiring should be done by a licensed electrician, in line with local electrical code. Once everything is mounted and the system is set up, run a quick pairing test from each location — press the paddle at every control point, then repeat from the app — so you leave the site knowing the whole group responds the same way. In larger rooms, it is worth walking the space while you test to make sure the wireless link is solid from every box you plan to use.
Applications and compatible productsThink stairwells, long corridors, kitchens with two doorways, primary bedrooms where you want a control at the door and another at the bed, garages that open into a mudroom, plus salons, clinics, boutiques and small offices with a front and back entrance. To build the system, start with the
Lutron Caséta starter kit, use the
Lutron Caséta LED dimmer 150W as the dimming point on the load, and add a
Pico remote for Caséta wireless dimmers wherever a wall box does not exist. If a room only needs a straightforward wired dimmer instead, the
Diva LED dimmer 150W is a solid non-wireless alternative. No spec sheet, IES file or video is currently listed for this item; anything that becomes available will appear in the Documentation tab.
