Built for easy, clean installs
The UV5050KIT is a 5m flexible circuit carrying 300 individual 2835 SMD LED chips from Epistar, mounted on an 8mm-wide IP20 strip with a self-adhesive backing. Peel, press and you're done — no channel, no clips, no drilling required for a standard install. The tape can be cut every 3 LEDs (that's every 5cm) along the marked cut lines, so you can trim a 5m roll down to the exact length of a bar front, a stair stringer or a ceiling cove without wasting the rest of the roll. Because it's rated IP20, this UV LED strip is recommended for indoor, dry locations only.
What UV light at 405nm actually does
The chips emit at a 405nm wavelength, the near-UV range that makes fluorescent materials glow: neon body paint, highlighter ink, white cotton, tonic water, glow-in-the-dark decor and UV-reactive posters all light up dramatically. A 120-degree lighting angle spreads that effect across a wide surface instead of concentrating it in a narrow line, which is exactly what you want when you're washing a wall or a ceiling. Keep in mind that the 2835 UV chip may appear blue to the eye when lit because of its brightness — it is genuinely a UV chip and delivers the properties you expect from one.
Electrical and dimming details
The strip runs on 12VDC and consumes 9W per meter. LED MONTREAL recommends sizing the transformer at 11W per meter, and it must be powered by a Class 2 transformer — the kit ships with its own power supply, and you choose either an on/off switch or a remote-controlled dimmer when you order. The strip is dimmable through a remote, a wall panel or a dimmable power supply, so you can dial the glow up for a party and down for ambient mood lighting. Heat dissipation is not necessary unless the product is used in a commercial environment, in which case an aluminum profile is the usual approach. Operating temperature range is 40C to -10C.
