A complete kit for dry indoor spacesOpen the box and you have everything for one run of colour: the
RGB LED tape on its reel, the controller with its infrared receiver, the remote and its battery, and a plug-in power supply whose low-voltage lead ends in a DC connector that clicks into the controller. There is no driver to size and no wiring inside the wall; the whole kit works from a regular outlet. The strip is wired for RGB, so the supplied
colour controller always sits between the power supply and the tape.
Colours, effects and the infrared remoteRed, green and blue are combined inside every
5050 chip, and the controller blends them into solid colours or moving effects, from a gentle fade or a smooth colour cycle to flash and strobe, with a speed setting for the animated modes. The receiver listens for the remote's
infrared signal, so it has to stay in view of where you'll point the remote; just under a cabinet lip or on top of a bookcase works well. If you want a white light for tasks as well as colour for mood, plan an RGBW strip instead, since RGB alone can't produce a true white.

Installation tipsDry-fit the layout first, then cut the tape only at the printed
cut marks. The strip bends up and down easily but resists bending sideways, so at an inside corner or around an obstacle, solder a short RGB extension or fit a clip-on connector made for uncoated strips. The self-adhesive back is meant for clean, non-glossy metal and holds poorly on lacquered or high-gloss wood, so on cabinets and shelves, stick the tape into an
aluminum profile first and fasten the profile instead. That also hides the individual dots and gives a smoother line of light, especially on shiny kitchen finishes where every hotspot shows.
Ideas, and one limitUnder-cabinet and toe-kick lighting,
TV backlighting, headboards, bookcases, cove ceilings, gaming setups, bar shelving, boutique displays and salon mirrors are all great homes for this kit. Keep it to dry rooms only: for a bathroom, a covered patio or a damp basement corner, the
waterproof version of this kit is the right choice. When planning, put the outlet, the power supply and the receiver at the start of the run, where the
indoor LED strip begins.
