Everything in one boxThis kit removes the guesswork of matching parts. The waterproof
RGB LED strip arrives with a plug-in power supply whose DC connector clips straight into the controller, plus an infrared remote, its receiver and the remote's battery. Plug the supply into an outlet, connect the strip to the controller, and you're changing colours in minutes, with no driver to source. An RGB strip uses a dedicated colour connection, which is why it always runs through an
RGB controller like the one supplied here.
Colour effects and the infrared remoteInside every
5050 chip, red, green and blue light sources sit side by side, and the controller mixes them into solid colours or animated effects (flash, strobe, fade and smooth colour change), each with an adjustable speed. Because the remote works by infrared, the receiver must be within its line of sight; leave it visible on a shelf edge, behind a valance with an opening or just inside a doorway, and keep it, like the power supply, out of the rain. At
30 LEDs per metre in a high-output layout, the strip lays a lively, saturated wash on walls, ceilings, railings and fascia boards.

Installing in damp and outdoor spotsPlan the run before you peel anything. Make cuts exclusively at the printed
cutting points, and remember that any cut end of a waterproof strip has to be sealed again to keep its protection. The tape flexes up and down but must not be bent sideways, so turn corners with a short soldered RGB jumper wire or a suitable connector. The adhesive backing grips best on clean, non-glossy metal and is not reliable on varnished or glossy wood, which is why an
aluminum channel makes the best base, both for adhesion and for a clean, diffused line of light. Route the lead so water runs away from the connections, and add clips outdoors rather than trusting adhesive alone.
Where it works bestCovered patios and pergolas, screened porches, gazebo rafters, under-deck stair edges, boathouse eaves, bathroom and spa niches, terrace bar counters, café patios and shop windows that fog up in winter. Contractors like it for clients who want colour in a
humid space without building custom enclosures; homeowners like that it's a single kit with one plug. For a dry living room or bedroom, the
indoor version of this kit does the same job; either way, an
RGB strip kit sets a mood in seconds.
