A 4" remodel housing with C style clips
The RF402C is a 4" aperture line voltage housing made for remodeling applications. It installs from below through a round opening cut in an existing ceiling, and its screw-down "C" style clips lock it firmly against the drywall. It is intended to provide accent and task lighting, the kind of focused light that brings out a painting, a stone wall or a kitchen work surface.
Medium base socket and a wide choice of trims
The housing uses a medium base socket, the familiar screw-in socket of standard household bulbs, rated 120V, 50W according to its name. Choose the LED bulb that suits each space and replace it quickly when needed. On the trim side, the RF402C offers a wide choice of trim types including reflector, wall wash and retractable trims: a reflector trim for crisp, efficient downlight, a wall wash trim to light up a wall evenly, or a retractable trim to aim the beam at artwork or merchandise.
Non-insulated (non-IC)
This is the non-insulated version of the housing. It should be installed in ceiling cavities where it will not be in contact with thermal insulation, for example in basements, between floors or in ceilings under a heated space. For ceilings in contact with insulation, choose an IC rated housing instead. Always follow the installation instructions for the required clearances.
Installation in an existing ceiling
Check the area above each location for joists, ducts and pipes, then trace and cut the opening. Fish the supply cable, connect it according to the instructions and your local electrical code, push the housing into the ceiling and screw down the C style clips until it is snug against the drywall. Finish with the trim and the bulb. Have a licensed electrician make all connections.
Where it shines
Kitchens, basements, family rooms, hallways and home theatres, as well as boutiques, galleries, restaurants and showrooms where accent lighting makes displays stand out. Count one RF402C per light location and pair it with the trim that creates the effect you want.
