Need to hang a pot light mounting plate exactly where your lighting plan says, not where the joists happen to fall? The new construction mounting kit for P-4000 plates (SKU P-NCMK-1) is the hanger-bar kit that suspends selected stand-alone pre-mounting plates between the joists. It works with the 4020, 4020S, 6020, 6020S and 8020 pre-mounting plates, and it is the light mounting bracket system installers rely on when a row of recessed lighting has to be perfectly aligned in an open ceiling.

The kit includes adjustable hanger bars, L-shaped brackets and the screws needed to attach the plate. The brackets have mounting tracks that hold the hanger bars while letting you slide the attached plate to any point along the span, so the plate can sit anywhere between two joists. Score lines on the hanger bars allow toolless shortening for tighter joist spacing, and integral clips snap onto T-bars, which is handy in suspended ceiling grids. Built from rigid steel, the kit keeps the plate solid and square during drywall and trim installation.

What is in the kit
The P-NCMK-1 is a new construction mounting kit used together with selected stand-alone pre-mounting plates to mount them onto the joists. Inside you will find the hanger bars, the brackets and the screws. The pre-mounting plate itself is sold separately: choose the 4020, 4020S, 6020, 6020S or 8020 plate from the P-4000 family according to the downlight you are installing, then pair it with this kit.

Hanger bars that bridge the gap
The adjustable hanger bars span the distance between joists, so the plate can be positioned at any point along the span rather than being fastened directly to a joist. This is what lets you follow the lighting plan precisely, centre lights on a kitchen island or a hallway, and keep equal spacing even when the framing is irregular. Score lines on the bars make it possible to shorten them without tools for narrower joist spacing.

Brackets and T-bar clips
The L-shaped steel brackets include mounting tracks that secure the hanger bars while still allowing easy positioning of the attached plate along the bars. The brackets fasten to the plate with the included screws. Integral T-bar clips snap onto the grid of a suspended ceiling, which makes the kit useful in offices and commercial spaces as well as in homes with drywall ceilings.

Installation tips
Lay out your downlights on the floor or with a laser, transfer the marks to the framing, and install one kit and plate at each location while the ceiling is open. Slide each plate into position, lock it in, and check the alignment from one end of the room to the other before the drywall goes up.
