A tilting gimbal for accent lighting
The RTM4018R3-BK is a round 4" gimbal trim with a tilting center, the lamp holder, that adjusts and maintains the set angle. That aiming capability is what makes it so useful for accent and task applications: wash a stone wall, highlight a painting, focus light on a kitchen island or a desk, or aim at merchandise on a shelf. Where a fixed trim sends light straight down, a gimbal lets you put it exactly where it matters.
Construction and finish
The trim is constructed of precision spun steel, and three chrome plated steel clips provide enhanced rigidity within the housing, so it stays snug and flush against the ceiling. This version comes in a black finish, a strong choice for modern and industrial interiors, dark or wood ceilings, and anyone who wants the trims to become a visible design element rather than disappear. The same trim exists in other finishes, which makes it easy to match every room.
Lamp and housing compatibility
The trim uses a PAR 20 lamp with a medium base, 50W max. For energy savings, choose a PAR 20 LED lamp: it runs cooler and uses a fraction of the energy of an old halogen lamp, while keeping the focused beam that makes accent lighting work. The trim is designed to be used with 4" medium base recessed housings, in new construction or remodel installations.
Installation
With the power off, insert the trim into the 4" housing and seat the three clips so the flange sits flat against the ceiling. Screw in the PAR 20 lamp, then tilt the center to the desired angle. Follow the housing and trim installation instructions and your local electrical code; have a licensed electrician handle any wiring work.
Where it shines
Kitchens with islands, living rooms with a fireplace or artwork, hallways with photos, home theatres, as well as boutiques, galleries, restaurants and showrooms. Wherever you want adjustable recessed lighting with a black finish, count one RTM4018R3-BK per 4" housing.
