VAPOR BARRIER EXTENDER FOR USE WITH SLM4 AND SLM6 - VBE-3

VAPOR BARRIER EXTENDER FOR USE WITH SLM4 AND SLM6 - VBE-3

SKU: VBE-3

Brand: LITELINE

Adding slim LED pot lights to a ceiling under the attic? Do not leave the vapour barrier with a hole in it. The Vapor Barrier Extender for use with SLM4 and SLM6 (SKU VBE-3) is a pot light vapour barrier made to enclose a recessed fixture from above and stop air leakage from your living space into the attic. Installers also know it as a recessed light vapour barrier or a vapour barrier box, and it is the accessory to plan with slim recessed lights such as the SlimLED Plus SLM6-16W-CCT-WH when they go into an insulated ceiling.

The body is a membrane with a flat flange all around, sized to better enclose 6-inch fixtures. An adhesive mounting collar bonds to the existing vapour barrier above the ceiling, which is what keeps warm, moist indoor air from escaping. A key benefit for renovations: it can be inserted into an insulated ceiling after the drywall is installed. According to the spec sheet it is required in order to comply with specific National Building Code of Canada regulations, and it bears the cULus listing.

Use the VBE-3 wherever an SLM4 or SLM6 recessed light sits below an attic or an insulated roof: top-floor bedrooms and hallways, bungalow kitchens, cottages, condo penthouses and small commercial spaces under a flat roof. In a Canadian winter, keeping humid air out of a cold attic is simply good building practice. Check the light fixture spec sheet for compatibility, then add one extender per fixture to your order.

The role of a vapour barrier extender
Ceilings under an attic in Canada include a vapour barrier that keeps humid indoor air away from the cold side of the insulation. Cutting a hole for a recessed light breaks that barrier. The VBE-3 restores it around the fixture: the enclosure covers the light from above and its collar seals to the existing vapour barrier, so air cannot travel from the room into the attic. It is a small part that protects the building envelope and supports compliance with specific National Building Code of Canada requirements.

Made for SLM4 and SLM6 fixtures
As its name says, this extender is intended for the SLM4 and SLM6 recessed lights, and the manufacturer's spec sheet describes it as a vapour barrier extender for 6-inch fixtures. For example, it pairs with the SlimLED Plus SLM6-16W-CCT-WH, a slim recessed fixture of the SLM6 series. The membrane body and flat flange leave room around the fixture and its connections. Always confirm compatibility on the light fixture spec sheet before installation.

Installation
With the power off at the panel, cut the fixture opening and gently push the insulation aside to make room. Bring the supply cable through the opening and into the extender, sealing the cable entry so it stays airtight. Slide the extender above the ceiling through the cut-out, open it fully by hand, then peel the protective paper from the adhesive mounting collar and press it firmly against the existing vapour barrier all around. The recessed light is then connected and installed through the opening. Work of this kind should be done by a qualified electrician, following local electrical code.

Perfect for retrofits
Because it can go in after the drywall, the VBE-3 suits projects where the ceiling is already closed: adding slim pot lights to a living room, upgrading a kitchen during a renovation or finishing a top-floor room. No need to open the ceiling from the attic side.

Planning your order
Count one VBE-3 for each SLM4 or SLM6 fixture installed under an attic or an insulated roof, in homes, cottages and small commercial units alike. It is cULus listed, light, easy to handle and quick to put in place, which makes it a sensible addition to every slim pot light job in an insulated ceiling.
