That tight tolerance is what prevents the wobble, light leak and crooked seams that give away a rushed recessed lighting job. The black finish gives a low-glare, architectural frame that recedes visually, letting the illuminated surface — a stair tread, a stone wall, a corridor floor — become the focal point instead of the hardware.

The RT05HV and RT05LV light engines this trim completes put out 145 lumens from just 2W / 2.2W, which is exactly what low-level guidance lighting should be: enough to define an edge, never enough to blind someone walking toward it. Rough in the wall or riser to the published 4-3/4" × 2-7/8" (121 × 73 mm) cutout, run your feed to the engine's 12" (30 cm) lead, set the light engine, then clip the screwless window trim on last. No tools, no screw holes to conceal, no touch-up paint. Plan your supply around the engine's voltage — the RT05 runs on 100V AC or 12V AC/DC — and confirm which version you ordered (RT05HV or RT05LV) before wiring; this trim fits both. The engines are dimmable and IP67 rated with a -20°C to +45°C operating range, so the same detail can be repeated indoors and outdoors on one project.
