What this kit actually isA
surface mount frame is a shallow metal enclosure that sits between your ceiling and your LED panel. The panel is normally built to sit in a suspended ceiling grid, supported by the T-bars themselves. Remove the grid from the equation and the panel has nothing to rest on — the frame becomes that support. It anchors to the structure, receives the panel, conceals the wiring and the driver, and gives you a finished fixture with clean lines. This version is dimensioned for
2x4 LED panels from the multi-watt (selectable wattage) series and carries the SKU LCPAN-KIT-MONT-2X4-T.
Installation, step by stepThe sequence is simple and familiar to any electrician or experienced renovator: cut power at the panel, locate the joists or strapping, fasten the frame to the ceiling, bring the supply cable into the frame, make your connections to the panel's driver following the panel's own instructions, tuck the wiring and driver into the box, then secure the panel to the frame. Because everything is accessible from below, there's no need to open the ceiling or work from an attic. On a concrete ceiling in a basement or a commercial unit, use appropriate anchors for the substrate. Always follow the Canadian Electrical Code and your local requirements; when in doubt, hand the connection over to a licensed electrician.
Compatibility — read this before you orderMounting kits are size-specific and family-specific, so match them carefully. This one is for
2x4 multi-watt panels. For the square format, use the
mounting kit for multi watt LED panels 2x2; for the long narrow format, the
mounting kit for multi watt LED panels 1x4. Radio frequency panels have their own kits, including the
mounting kit for radio frequency LED panels 2x4 and the
mounting kit for radio frequency LED panels 2x2. If the ceiling is very high, or if it's an open deck with exposed services, suspending the panel is often the better answer: the
hanging kit for LED panels 2x4 and the
hanging kit for multi watt LED panels bring the light down to a useful height.
Where contractors use itFinished basements where the owner refuses a drop ceiling. Garages and home workshops that need flat, shadow-free light over a bench. Laundry rooms, mudrooms, walk-in closets and corridors. On the commercial side: clinics and dental offices, hair and nail salons, daycares, pharmacies, small offices carved out of older buildings, storage and prep rooms behind a counter. Anywhere the fixture has to look intentional rather than improvised, the
surface mount LED panel approach delivers a crisp rectangle of even light with no bulky housing hanging below.
Good to knowThis is an accessory, not a light source: it produces no light on its own and is ordered alongside the panel it supports. Plan one kit per panel, and confirm the panel's series and size before checking out — a
2x4 LED panel light from the multi-watt series is what this frame is built to carry. Keep the panel's own instruction sheet with you during install, since the electrical connections and driver placement follow the panel, not the frame.
