What this kit actually doesA flat
LED panel is designed to drop into a 2x2 suspended ceiling grid, where the T-bars carry the weight and hide the edges. Remove the grid and the panel has nothing to sit on. This surface mount kit gives it a frame: the housing sits flush against the ceiling, the panel installs into it, and the assembly reads as a proper surface-mounted ceiling fixture rather than a grid tile stuck to drywall. That's the whole job of this accessory — turning a recessed grid
LED ceiling panel into a surface fixture, cleanly and repeatably.
Made for the radio frequency panelsThis version, LCPAN-KIT-MONT-2X2-A, is the one intended for
2x2 radio frequency LED panels — the panels driven by an RF remote or wireless controller for dimming and colour selection. Pairing the right kit with the right panel family matters: the fit, the depth and the way the panel seats in the frame are what give you a tight, gap-free finish. Because the kit is purely mechanical, it doesn't change the panel's electrical behaviour. The panel's driver, its lumen output, its colour temperature and its radio frequency control all work exactly as they do in a grid installation, and the RF signal reaches the receiver the same way.
Installation notesPlan the ceiling penetration and the supply wiring before you mount anything: with a surface installation, the connection is made inside or directly behind the frame, so you want the cable arriving where the box sits. Locate joists or use ceiling anchors rated for the assembly, position the frame, secure it, land your connections, then seat the panel. Two people make a 2x2 install faster and safer. As always in Canada, line-voltage work must respect the Canadian Electrical Code and your provincial and municipal requirements — when in doubt, have a licensed electrician make the final connection.
Where it earns its keepThink of the finished basement where every inch of head height counts, the condo corridor built in concrete, the home office carved out of a spare room, the garage or workshop with an open joist ceiling, the esthetics room or dental operatory with a washable drywall ceiling, or the small retail back-of-house. In all of these, a drop ceiling is either impossible or undesirable, and yet the client still wants the wide, even, glare-free light of a flat panel. This kit is what makes that combination possible, and it's why contractors stock both mounting and suspension options.
Choosing the right kitMatch the kit to the panel size and panel family. For a 2x4 radio frequency panel, use the
Mounting kit for radio frequency LED panels 2x4. For multi watt panels, see the
Mounting kit for multi watt LED panels 1x4 or the
Mounting kit for multi watt LED panels 2x4. If the ceiling is very high or you want a modern floating look over a desk or counter, a cable
suspended mounting solution such as the
Hanging kit for LED panels 2x2 is the better route. No spec sheet or IES file is published for this accessory; refer to the documentation of the panel it will carry for dimensions, output and control details.
