What this kit actually doesA
LED panel light is designed to drop into a suspended T-bar grid. When there is no grid — drywall, plaster, concrete slab, wood deck — the panel needs a frame that holds it against the ceiling and hides the edges. That's the whole job of this
surface mount frame. The kit forms a shallow box around the perimeter of the panel: you fasten the frame to the ceiling, connect the wiring, then secure the panel into the frame. The result looks like a purpose-built
surface mount fixture, with straight lines and no visible gap between the fixture and the ceiling.
Technical specificationsSKU: LCPAN-KIT-MONT-2X2-T
Type: surface mount frame (mounting kit)
Panel format: 2x2
Compatible panels: multi watt LED panels
Category: Panel Surface Mount Frame
Applications: residential and commercial projects
Installation notesPlan the layout first: because the assembly sits on the surface, the ceiling face becomes your reference, so snap your lines and make sure the frame lands on solid backing or blocking at each fastening point. Bring your supply wire into the frame before closing it up, keep the panel's driver accessible, and respect the Canadian Electrical Code and any local requirements — a licensed electrician should make the final connections. Two people make the job faster on a 2x2 assembly: one holding the panel, one securing it. Since nothing is recessed, there's no hole to cut and no insulation to disturb, which is a real advantage in finished basements and in buildings where you'd rather not open the ceiling.
Where it earns its keepThink of the office suite where the drop ceiling was removed for a modern look, the dental clinic that needs even, glare-free light on a hard ceiling, the corner store with a concrete deck, the school portable, the condo hallway, the home gym or the basement office. In all of those, a 2x2 panel on a
surface mount frame gives you broad, uniform illumination without the bulk of a wrap fixture. It's also a smart retrofit path when you're replacing old fluorescent troffers on a hard ceiling: same 2x2 footprint, modern LED efficiency, no ceiling rebuild.
Compatibility and companion productsThis kit is built for the 2x2 multi watt panel format — match the kit to the panel size and series, not just the size, so the frame and the fixture lock together properly. For the other formats in the same line, use the
1x4 mounting kit for multi watt LED panels or the
2x4 mounting kit for multi watt LED panels. For radio frequency panels, choose the
mounting kit for radio frequency LED panels 2x4 instead. And if the design calls for panels floating below the ceiling rather than tight to it, the
hanging kit for multi watt LED panels is the alternative to specify. No spec sheet or IES file is posted for this accessory; the photometric data belongs to the panel you pair it with, so refer to that product's documentation for wattage, lumens and colour temperature.
