GRIP & CLIP CONNECTORS FOR CUSTOM EXTENSION ON SINGLE COLOR 3528 OR 5050 IP20 LED STRIP

GRIP & CLIP CONNECTORS FOR CUSTOM EXTENSION ON SINGLE COLOR 3528 OR 5050 IP20 LED STRIP

SKU: GRPSC

Brand: LED MONTREAL

Extending a run of LED strip lights shouldn't mean dragging out a soldering iron. The Grip & Clip connectors (SKU GRPSC) from LED MONTREAL are solderless connectors made for custom extensions on single colour 3528 or 5050 IP20 LED strip — the classic, non-coated strip light everyone uses for coves, cabinets, shelving and display cases. You cut your strip exactly where you need it, clip on the connector, and you have a clean, reliable connection in seconds. No flux, no burnt fingertips, no waiting for joints to cool. If you've been searching for a way to jump a corner, bridge a gap between two sections or simply add length to an existing run of strip lighting, this is the little part that saves the whole job.

The principle is simple and it works: peel off the paper protecting the adhesive on your strip, slide the strip into the designated end of the connector, then close the connector with a pair of pliers. The special grip blades bite through to the copper pads and make a secure, dependable contact. These connectors are designed specifically for single colour IP20 strip — the non-silicone-coated type — in the two most common formats, 3528 and 5050. A quick note before you order: solderless connectors are not compatible with silicone coated strips (IP65, IP65+, IP67 and IP68), nor with any high-density strip carrying more than 60 LEDs per meter, such as type 3014 with 120 LEDs/meter, RGB 3535 and similar. Grip and Clip connectors are also wider than the strip itself, so they will not fit inside an aluminum LED profile.

These connectors earn their keep in kitchens under upper cabinets, in bedroom cove ceilings, in basement stairwells, behind bathroom mirrors, and in retail display cases, bars and reception desks where a run of LED strip lighting has to wrap around corners or continue past an obstacle. They suit both residential renovations and commercial fit-outs across Canada, and they're a smart thing to keep in the van or the toolbox for on-site adjustments. If your strip is going inside a channel or profile, soldering the wire directly onto the strip is the better route. Otherwise, grab a handful of Grip & Clip connectors and finish your strip light installation the easy way.

What it is and how it works
The Grip & Clip connector is a mechanical, solderless splice for flexible LED strip lights. Instead of melting solder onto the copper contact pads, the connector houses special grip blades that pierce and clamp onto the pads when the body is closed. That gives you a firm mechanical hold and a dependable electrical contact in one motion. Because the connection is purely mechanical, you can work on a finished ceiling, inside a cabinet or up a ladder without an extension cord, a hot iron or fumes — a real advantage on occupied job sites and in tight spaces where a soldering station simply doesn't fit.

Installation, step by step
Cut your strip on the marked cut line so the copper pads are fully exposed and clean. Peel off the paper that protects the adhesive on the strip. Insert the strip into the designated end of the connector, making sure the polarity matches the marking on your strip and that the pads sit squarely under the blades. Close the connector using pliers — firm, even pressure across the body is what makes the grip blades bite properly. Repeat at the other end with the second section of strip or your extension wire, then test the circuit before you press the strip permanently into place. If a section ever needs to come out later, the connection is easy to locate and replace.

Compatibility — read this before ordering
These connectors are made for single colour 3528 or 5050 IP20 LED strip, meaning strip without a silicone coating. They are not compatible with silicone coated strips (IP65, IP65+, IP67 and IP68), and they are not compatible with any strip having more than 60 LEDs per meter, such as type 3014 with 120 LEDs/meter, RGB 3535 and other high density strips. On coated strip, the coating has to be removed to expose the contacts, which is why we point those projects toward a soldered connection instead. Note as well that Grip and Clip connectors are wider than the LED strip, so they will not fit inside an aluminum LED profile — if your run is going into a channel, solder the wire directly onto the strip for a low-profile joint that slides in cleanly.

Where it gets used
Think of every place a strip light run has to change direction or grow: under-cabinet lighting in a kitchen that wraps a return wall, a cove ceiling in a living room where two lengths meet at an inside corner, toe-kicks, closet shelving, basement stairs, a home bar, or a garage workbench. On the commercial side, they're handy in retail display cases, cooler surrounds, reception desks, salon mirrors and restaurant millwork, where layouts rarely match the exact length of a reel. Keeping a few Grip & Clip connectors on hand means a last-minute layout change doesn't stop the install — for both residential and commercial projects, they turn a fussy repair into a one-minute fix.
