Slim profile, solid buildThis 8-foot
silver track section is an
extruded aluminum profile measuring 21 mm by 35 mm. Inside, PVC insulators hold the 12 gauge flat conductor wiring, and the copper electrical conductors are concealed in an insulating thermoplastic, low-profile cross-section. A polarity groove on the face of the track indicates where the grounding conductor is located, a handy reference when you install feeds, connectors and heads. The silver finish adds a bright, contemporary line to white or grey ceilings.
Electrical rating and power feedsTrack lighting is a single circuit electrical distribution system that supplies power to lighting units in flexible ways. This
single-circuit track is intended for
120V applications: the single hot and neutral conductors are rated for 20 amps per branch circuit, for a system electrical rating of 20A, 120V, 60Hz. Power can be brought in by a live-end at the end of the track, a live-end with canopy fed from a junction box, a center feed anywhere along the track, a live-end conduit feed for top or end feed, or a wired-end that takes power from a receptacle. Switch off the breaker first and have a licensed electrician make the connection according to the electrical code in your province.
Joining and finishing the runThese tracks can be joined together using any of the compatible
track connectors: the I-connector joins two sections at 180°, the L-connector two sections at 90°, the T-connector three sections at 90°, the X-connector four sections at 90°, and the flexible connector two sections at varying angles. An end cap gives the run a clean finish, and a hollow stem rod kit for track suspension, with ceiling canopy, mounting brackets and hardware, lets you
suspend the track from the ceiling. Accessories are not included. For a shorter piece in the same finish, choose the
2-foot track in silver; the same section also comes as an
8-foot track in black or an
8-foot track in white.
Real-world ideasIn a Québec City gallery, a silver track along the ceiling lets curators relight each new exhibit; in a Calgary boardroom, it highlights the table and the presentation wall; in a Saskatoon boutique, it follows the shelving as displays evolve. At home, it lights a kitchen island, a home office or a basement media room with the same flexibility. For
commercial track lighting and residential projects alike, the long section keeps joints to a minimum. The
spec sheet, with drawing, ordering guide and accessory list, is in the Documentation tab.
