What the P-4000 does
The P-4000 is a 4" premounting plate supplied with collar and intended for 4" C style housing. It is installed while the ceiling is still open, before insulation and drywall are finished. The plate holds the recessed housing at the planned location and provides a solid base, so that once the ceiling is closed, each opening matches the lighting plan and the finished pot lights line up neatly.
The advantage of a matched plate
The 4" recessed light is one of the most common formats in Canadian homes, used in kitchens, living rooms and hallways alike. When a ceiling has many of them, even a small misalignment becomes visible. A premounting plate designed for 4" C style housing keeps each fixture in the same position relative to the ceiling, avoids improvised wood blocking and loose supports, and reduces adjustment time. The included collar means the plate arrives ready for its intended housing, without extra parts to source.
Installation advice
Lay out the lighting plan on the joists, fasten a plate at each location and install the 4" C style housing on it. Verify spacing and alignment before insulation and drywall go in, since corrections are much easier at this stage. Share plate locations with the drywall team so openings are cut precisely. All electrical connections must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with local codes.
