What a premounting plate does
The P-1750 is a 1-3/4" premounting plate supplied with vapor barrier extender clips. It is installed while the framing is still open, before insulation and drywall are finished. By fixing the plate at this stage, the installer sets the exact location of the future light fixture and creates a sturdy mounting point, so the fixture can be completed cleanly once the walls and ceilings are closed.
Keeping the vapour barrier intact
In Canadian construction, the vapour barrier is essential to protect insulation and framing against moisture and to limit air leakage. Every opening made for a light fixture is a potential weak point. The extender clips included with this plate help carry the vapour barrier around the mounting location, so it can be sealed properly rather than cut and taped as an afterthought. It is a simple way to respect the building envelope and to reduce drafts and condensation problems around the fixture.
Installation tips
Position the plate according to your lighting layout before insulation goes in, then install the vapour barrier and use the extender clips to integrate it neatly around the plate. Coordinate with the insulation contractor so the barrier is continuous, and mark plate locations clearly for the drywall crew. The electrical connection of the fixture must be completed by a qualified electrician following local electrical and building codes.
Typical projects
This premounting plate is well suited to new houses, condo units, home additions, basement finishing and renovations where walls or ceilings are opened down to the studs. It helps builders deliver tidy lighting installations that are also better for energy efficiency and comfort. Keep a few on hand during framing so every fixture location is ready before the drywall arrives.
