What this mounting plate does
The P-4010 is a new construction pre-mounting plate for 4" recessed downlights. Its job is simple but important: it creates a fixed, square support for a 4" C style housing before the ceiling finish is installed. By setting the plates first, you lock in the position of every pot light in the room and avoid the drift that happens when housings are attached one by one directly to the joists.
No neck, no collar
This version has no neck, meaning the plate is flat with no collar around the opening. That is the configuration intended for 4" C style housings, which bring their own geometry to the opening. Choosing the right plate for the housing keeps the finished trim sitting flush against the ceiling and avoids gaps or shimming later. If your housing calls for a plate with a collar, pick that variant instead; for C style housings, this no-collar plate is the match.
Installation tips
Mark your layout on the floor or with a laser, transfer it to the joists, then fasten one plate per light location while the bays are open. Once all the plates are in, check the lines from end to end before mounting the housings and pulling cable. Keep insulation, framing and plumbing clearances in mind and follow the housing installation instructions and local electrical code. Work with a licensed electrician for connections to the circuit.
Where it is used
This recessed light mounting plate is a staple for basement finishing, home additions, new custom homes and multi-unit residential projects, as well as offices, boutiques and restaurants being built from the studs. Anywhere a series of 4" downlights needs to look perfectly aligned from below, starting with a pre-mounting plate is the professional way to do it.
Planning your order
Count one plate per 4" C style housing in your lighting plan, and add a spare or two for layout changes on site. Pairing each housing with its proper plate at the rough-in stage saves time on the ceiling, keeps the trims level, and gives the whole room a clean, finished look once the lights are on.
