One handset, several kinds of strip
Most remotes force you to choose: either you control colour-changing tape or you control white tape. The Y3 does both. Its vertical layout sits naturally in one hand, and the zone buttons let you jump from an RGB LED strip in the ceiling cove to a plain warm white run under the cabinets without picking up a second device. Each zone is simply a channel: you decide what lives on it when you pair the receivers. That makes the Y3 as useful in a one-room setup as it is in a multi-room install where the homeowner wants everything answered by one LED strip remote.
How the zones actually work
Every zone you intend to use needs at least one controller, and that controller defines the zone's personality: RGB, RGBW, RGB+CCT, single colour or adjustable white. You can put several controllers on the same zone — they all react to the same command at the same time, which is perfect for long runs split across multiple power supplies or for two identical rooms you always want in sync. The one rule to respect is consistency: all controllers on a given zone must be of the same type. Pair an RGB receiver to Zone 1 and every other receiver you add to Zone 1 must be RGB too. Zones you leave empty simply do nothing, so there is no need to fill the remote before your system works.
Radio frequency, not infrared
The Y3 transmits at 2.4GH, a true RF link rather than a line-of-sight infrared beam. In practice you can leave the controller tucked behind a valance, inside a cabinet, above a drop ceiling or in a service closet and still operate the strip from another part of the room. The stated control distance is 30m, which comfortably covers an open-plan basement, a retail floor or a long corridor. Power comes from 3V (2 x AAA batteries), so the remote stays completely wireless — no wall box to cut, no low-voltage cable to fish, nothing to inspect.

Where it earns its keep — and the paperwork
Think of a finished basement with a colour-changing perimeter on one zone and soft white stair lighting on another; a kitchen renovation where under-cabinet LED strip lighting stays white while the toe-kick glows in colour; a boutique, salon or restaurant that shifts its accent lighting for the evening service; or a home office where a single handset handles shelf lighting and a backlit display wall. Because the Y3 is a transmitter, it does not replace a driver or power supply — you still need a compatible receiver on each zone and a suitable low-voltage supply for the tape itself.
