What this accessory is
The ZZWRMSHL from SPECLITE is a microwave sensor made to be paired with a wrap light style luminaire. It is not a lamp and produces no light of its own: it is the control brain you add to a fixture so that the fixture responds to occupancy. The supplier describes it as a microwave sensor for a sealed wrap light type fixture that detects movement with high precision and optimizes energy efficiency by activating or reducing the lighting according to occupancy. That is exactly the behaviour you get — a fixture that ramps up when someone enters the zone and settles back down when the space empties.
Why microwave instead of infrared
A microwave motion sensor works by emitting a signal and reading how it comes back, so it detects motion rather than body heat. In practice that means it is far less bothered by cold air, by drafts from a loading door, or by a person wearing a heavy winter coat — all situations where passive infrared can hesitate. It also handles the small, repetitive movements of someone working at a bench or walking a long aisle. For corridors, garages and service spaces, that translates into fewer false shut-offs and fewer moments of standing in the dark waving your arms. Combined with an LED fixture, which restarts instantly with no warm-up, the response feels immediate every single time.

Installation and compatibility
This is a fixture-level accessory, so the work happens at the luminaire rather than at the wall box — no new switch leg, no extra conduit run, no control wiring back to a panel. Plan the sensor's position so its detection zone covers the natural path of travel: in a corridor, aim it along the length of the hallway rather than across it; in a parking garage, cover the drive aisle and the door people actually use; in a stairwell, one sensor per landing is the usual approach. Because it is supplied as a matched wrap light sensor rather than a universal kit, always verify the host fixture accepts this sensor option before installation, and have the connection made by a qualified electrician in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and your local authority having jurisdiction.
Where it earns its keep, and documentation
Think of every space that is lit far longer than it is occupied: multi-residential hallways and stairwells, condo and commercial parking garages, warehouse racking aisles, storage and mechanical rooms, back corridors in retail and restaurants, workshops, laundry rooms, detached garages and shops. Adding occupancy control to those fixtures cuts burn hours, reduces the load on the LED boards and keeps the space feeling safe, because the light is always on when a person is present. For full details, the technical PDF (FICHE TECHNIQUE ZZWRMSHL) is available in the Documentation tab of this page — download it for your submittal package, and share it with your electrician so the sensor and the fixture are specified together from the start.
