Design and constructionThe RTM418T-WH is a low-profile round gimbal trim for 4" recessed lighting. It is made of powder-coated steel in white, a finish that stays discreet on a standard painted ceiling. The tilting centre lamp holder swivels to aim the light and then maintains the chosen angle, so accent lighting on a wall, a painting or a display stays in place over time instead of drooping back toward the floor.
Lamp holder, springs and rigidityThe trim takes an MR16 lamp with a maximum of 75W. Two enhanced side pressure clips in the lamp holder are self-centring, which keeps the lamp aligned and the beam accurate. The lamp is loaded from the rear. Two stainless steel torsion springs attach the trim to the housing and add rigidity, so the trim stays tight against the ceiling. Choosing an LED MR16 lamp is an easy way to cut energy use and heat compared with an older halogen lamp while keeping the crisp, focused beam that makes this style of trim popular.
How to install itShut off the power at the breaker panel. Insert the MR16 lamp from the rear of the lamp holder and connect it, then pinch the two torsion springs and slide them into the brackets inside the recessed housing. Push the trim up until it rests flat against the ceiling, then tilt the centre to aim the beam. Check that the lamp, trim and housing are compatible and never exceed the 75W maximum. The whole job is done from below, which makes it a quick upgrade during a renovation or a simple refresh of tired trims.
Ideas for every roomPoint the light at a gallery wall in the hallway, at open shelving in the kitchen, at a stone fireplace in the living room or at a vanity niche. In a home theatre or basement family room, several gimbal trims give soft, layered light without glare. Commercial clients use this adjustable recessed trim in boutiques, showrooms, galleries, restaurants and hotel lobbies to highlight products, signage and décor.
Finish and careThe gimbal trim is offered in several finishes. White suits most residential ceilings, while the
black version of this MR16 gimbal trim creates a modern contrast or blends into a dark ceiling. To clean it, turn off the power, let the lamp cool and wipe with a soft, dry cloth; avoid abrasive products that could mark the powder coat.
