What a gimbal trim doesThe HV4-TH4018-BK is a
gimbal trim for 4-inch recessed lighting, finished in black. The gimbal is a pivoting ring that holds the bulb and lets you tilt and turn it, turning an ordinary pot light into a flexible accent light. Use it to light artwork, stone or brick walls, bookcases, bar shelving, retail merchandise or a dining table that is not centred under the housing.
Bulb and light qualityThis trim is designed for a
P20 bulb with a 50W rating. Choose an
LED P20 bulb: it runs cooler, which is gentler on artwork and fabrics, lasts far longer than halogen and uses much less energy. Warm white brings out the richness of wood and paintings, while neutral white shows true colours on merchandise, countertops and kitchen surfaces.
Installation and aimingHave a qualified person mount and wire the
4-inch recessed housing first. Turn off the power at the panel, check that the housing is compatible with this trim series, install the bulb, then push the trim up until it sits flat against the ceiling. Once the power is back on, tilt the gimbal gently by hand to aim the light. A gimbal trim is also a handy fix for existing
recessed lights placed a little off target: instead of moving the housing, you redirect the light.
Black or brushed brass?Black gives a modern, high-contrast look that suits industrial, contemporary and farmhouse interiors, and it looks especially sharp on a dark or wood ceiling. For a warmer, decorative accent, the same trim is available as the
4-inch gimbal trim in brushed brass, and a brushed nickel version also exists. For general lighting in the same room, fixed baffle or reflector trims of the same size complete the layout.
CareWith the power off and the bulb cool, dust the trim with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could mark the black finish, and do not force the gimbal beyond its natural movement. With an LED bulb, maintenance is minimal and your accent lighting stays consistent for years.
