What's in the box
The EL Wire Stickman Bundle was put together by LED MONTREAL to remove the guesswork from a DIY glow costume. You get 3 x 3 meters of 2.3 mm diameter EL Wire (colour chosen in the drop-down menu), 2 x 1 m EL Wire extension cords, 1 extended battery pack and 1 three-way splitter. The splitter is the part most people forget when they buy pieces separately: it lets one power source feed three separate wire runs at the same time, which is exactly what a stickman outline needs. The extension cords give you the slack to route the wire from a pocket or waistband down to your legs without pulling on a connector every time you move.
How EL wire works
EL stands for electroluminescent. Instead of individual diodes like an LED strip light, the whole length of the wire glows evenly and continuously — no visible dots, no hot spots, just a clean neon line. It stays cool to the touch, it bends and coils in any direction, and it keeps glowing when it's twisted around an elbow or a knee. That even, seamless line is what makes the stickman effect read so well on camera: in a dark room, your body disappears and only the drawn figure remains.

Building your costume
Start with a dark long-sleeve top and dark pants — black works best, because anything the wire doesn't cover simply vanishes. Lay the garment flat and plan your runs: one wire for both arms and the shoulders, one for the torso, one for the legs, feeding each run into the 3-way splitter and then into the extended battery pack, which rides comfortably in a pocket or clipped to a belt. Attach the wire with clear tape, fabric tape or a few hand stitches every few inches, leaving a small loop of slack at each elbow, knee and hip so the wire can flex when you walk and dance. Use the 1 m extension cords wherever the distance between a wire run and the splitter is too long. Test everything lit up in front of a mirror in a dark room before the big night, and keep the battery pack accessible so you can switch it on and off. There are other ways to build a stickman costume — if your design calls for different lengths or more colours, EL wire and accessories are also available as separate parts.
Beyond Halloween
This EL wire kit doesn't have to go back in the closet on November 1st. The same wire, splitter and battery pack are used for glowing signs and lettering, bicycle and helmet accents for evening rides, costumes for theatre and dance productions, photo-booth frames, retail window displays and party décor for bars and event venues. Because the battery pack is portable, nothing needs to be near an outlet — handy for parades, festivals and outdoor events. For permanent, plug-in accent lighting on coves, shelves, stairs and under cabinets, a traditional LED strip light remains the right tool; for anything that has to move, bend and travel with you, EL wire is the one.
