Built to vanish into the architecture
The 5515 is a trimless recessed aluminum profile, which means it is fully embedded into the ceiling or wall surface rather than sitting on it. There is no bezel, no flange and no visible trim once the surface is plastered and painted — only a clean slot of light emerging from the finished plane. The extrusion is made of aluminum, a material chosen as much for its rigidity over long spans as for its thermal behaviour, and it is offered here in a discreet silver finish at a length of 8 feet (96 inches). That length matters: fewer pieces per run means fewer joints to align, less filling and sanding, and a straighter, cleaner line of light across a long corridor or cove.
Light quality and the PC diffuser
The included PC (polycarbonate) cover is what turns a row of diodes into a continuous band of light. Snapped over the channel, it diffuses the output of the LED strip installed inside, eliminating harsh hotspots and the dotted effect you get from a bare tape. Polycarbonate was selected for three reasons: impact resistance, optical clarity and long-term UV stability, so the cover keeps its transparency and its performance over years of continuous operation in both residential and commercial settings. For the smoothest result, pair the profile with a high-density LED strip and keep your runs consistent so the diffused line reads evenly from end to end.
Thermal management and strip longevity
Heat is the number one enemy of LED tape, especially in recessed applications where air circulation is limited. The aluminum body of the 5515 acts as an efficient heat sink, drawing thermal energy away from the strip and dissipating it through the extrusion. That active thermal management helps maintain consistent LED performance, prevents premature lumen depreciation and significantly extends the service life of the installed strip lights. Always press the tape firmly and evenly onto the flat base of the channel so heat transfers properly — an air gap under the adhesive is the most common cause of hot spots and early failure.
Installation and compatibility
The CL-Alu-5515-SL-8FT is designed to be set into drywall, plaster or prefabricated ceiling systems during the rough-in phase, so plan your locations before the boarding goes up. Once fastened, finishers can plaster directly up to the profile edge; no trim ring or bezel is required. Cut the extrusion cleanly with the proper blade, deburr the edges and leave yourself access for the strip's power feed and driver. The profile pairs with a wide range of LED strip tapes and with compatible Canolight accessories including end caps and mounting clips, so contractors and lighting designers have everything needed to finish the job properly.
Applications and documentation
Think cove lighting in a living room, a floating line across a hallway ceiling, a perimeter glow in a primary bedroom, backlit millwork in a boutique, or continuous accents in a restaurant, office, clinic or hotel lobby. This trimless approach is increasingly specified in luxury residential and boutique commercial projects across Canada, where clients want the light without the hardware. For dimensions and full product details before ordering, the technical spec sheet (CL-Alu-5515-SL-8FT) is available in the Documentation tab of this page — download it to confirm your slot opening and coordinate with your drywall contractor.
