Built to protect the strip and make it look intentionalThe CL-ALU-509 is an extruded
aluminum channel designed for surface mounting on walls, ceilings and cabinetry. Aluminum does two jobs here: it keeps the profile straight and rigid over an 8 ft run, and it pulls heat away from the LED tape, which is the single biggest factor in how long a strip keeps its brightness and colour. The black body gives the installation a deliberate, manufactured look instead of a strip of tape stuck to a surface, and the included end caps close both ends so the cut end of the tape, the solder joints and the lead wires are never on display.
Light quality from the diffuserThe kit ships with a white PC (polycarbonate) cover with a
diffused finish. Its job is to take the individual LED points and blend them into one continuous band. The spec sheet calls out a high quality PC cover with no yellowish outlook — meaning the diffuser stays neutral instead of drifting warm and dingy over time, which matters a lot on a long run where every centimetre is in view. Use it anywhere the light source itself is visible: open shelving, glass display cases, stair nosings, cove details and under-counter work light.

Installation and compatibilityPlan the run first: mark your line, space the 3 clips along the length, fasten them to drywall, wood or metal, then press the profile into the clips. Feed your driver leads out through one end before you cap it, stick the LED tape down the centre of the channel, and slide the PC cover in from the end rather than snapping it flat, which is gentler on the lens. Check that your
LED strip fits the 7 mm opening and respects the strip manufacturer's cut points before you cut. For clean corners, plan your joints at the end caps or mitre the extrusion with a fine-tooth blade and a mitre box. Nothing about this profile is recessed, so it is ideal for retrofits where opening the ceiling is not an option.
Where it earns its keep, and documentationContractors use the 509 for under-cabinet kitchen lighting, closet and pantry lighting, basement stair runs, garage workbenches and headboard details; on the commercial side it shows up in retail shelving, display cases, reception desks, restaurant bars, salon mirrors and office
linear lighting details. On a longer wall, continue the run with the
Profile 509 10 ft black; for a silver finish that disappears against aluminum trim or stainless millwork, see the
