What it is and how it's built
The CL-AST-C8XBW-LV is a wire-to-PCB connector for 8mm COB LED strip light, supplied with a wire lead already attached. Instead of soldering leads onto the copper pads at the end of a cut strip, you open the clip, slide the strip in so the pads line up with the internal contacts, and close the clamp. The spring pressure of the clip holds the board and keeps metal-to-metal contact under load. The connector body is made from durable materials selected to stand up to heat and vibration, which matters in enclosed channels, valances and warm cabinet interiors where a marginal solder joint tends to fail first.
Electrical behaviour and light quality
This is a low-voltage (LV) accessory intended for 12VDC and 24VDC COB strip systems — the most common voltages in residential and commercial LED strip design. A good connection is not just about the strip lighting up: a high-resistance junction warms up, wastes power and drops voltage, and on a long run that shows as visibly dimmer output toward the far end. The clip-style clamp is designed to give a stable, low-resistance path so brightness and colour stay consistent from one end of the run to the other. Respecting the voltage of your strip and driver also protects the LEDs themselves from overheating and premature failure.

Installation tips and compatibility
Always cut the strip on its marked cut line so the full pad is exposed, and confirm the PCB width of your tape before ordering — this connector is made for 8mm boards, and a wider board simply won't seat in the housing. Wipe any silicone or adhesive residue off the pads, keep polarity straight (+ to +), and give the strip a gentle tug test before you close up the channel. Because the lead is flexible, you can route it behind a cabinet gable, across a mitre in an aluminum channel, through a grommet in a millwork panel, or all the way back to a driver mounted in a remote location. Use it as a feed at the start of a run, as a jumper between two sections of tape, or to bridge a corner where bending the strip isn't an option.
Where it earns its keep — and documentation
Kitchen under-cabinet lighting, cove and tray ceilings, stair nosings, closet systems, bar backs, retail display cases, jewellery and bakery counters, reception desks, basement renovations, motorhome and boat interiors — anywhere 8mm COB tape is used, a clean termination is needed. Cabinet shops love it because the connector can be installed on the bench and the wire simply pulled through during install.
