What an eyeball trim doesThe HV4-TH4004-WH is an
eyeball trim for 4-inch recessed lighting. The eyeball is a rounded insert that pivots within the white trim ring, letting you point the light at a chosen target. This is the trim to use for
accent lighting and wall washing: artwork, stone or brick walls, fireplaces, bookcases, bar shelving and store displays. Finished in white, it disappears into a standard ceiling so the lit object gets all the attention.
Bulb and light qualityThis trim is designed for a
P20 bulb with a 50W rating. An
LED P20 bulb is the recommended pairing: it runs cooler, which is gentler on artwork and fabrics, lasts much longer than halogen and uses much less energy. A warm white bulb flatters wood, paintings and skin tones, while a neutral white brings out true colours on merchandise and in kitchens.
Installation and aimingHave a qualified person mount and wire the
4-inch recessed housing first. Turn off the power at the panel, confirm the housing is compatible with this trim series, install the bulb, then push the trim up until the ring sits flat on the ceiling. Once the power is back on, turn the eyeball gently by hand to aim the light. An eyeball trim is also a clever fix for existing
recessed lights that are not quite in the right place: instead of moving the housing, you redirect the light.
Planning a layoutUse eyeball trims along a wall to create an even wash of light, or place one or two in front of a focal point such as a fireplace or a painting. Combine them with fixed baffle or reflector trims elsewhere in the room for general lighting. For a decorative metal look in the same series, the
4-inch gimbal trim in brushed brass also lets you tilt the light.
CareWith the power off and the bulb cool, dust the eyeball and ring with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid forcing the eyeball beyond its natural movement and skip abrasive cleaners on the white finish. With an LED bulb, maintenance is minimal and your accent lighting stays consistent for years.
